I booked at this hotel as my Best Friend was getting married and this is where everyone was staying back in Feb. I was the 3rd person to book my room so I had 6 rooms to choose from. I am on a budget so I booked the Petite queen room #7 at 395$ a night. The description clearly states that this room has a private bathroom. When I arrived I couldn't even find the room, which is located in the emergency exit hallway. I had to call and ask where it was and when they told me, they then said the bathroom was at the end of the hall. This took me by surprise as I would NEVER book a hotel room without a private bath room. I travel and spend at least one week a month in a hotel, and this was totally unacceptable. So I talked to other members of the wedding party and was asked not to leave as the bride was already stressed out due to the wedding. If I had my way I would have been on the next flight out as this made me very uncomfortable. Upon checking out the bathroom I found out it is located right next to stairs that are the emergency exit downstairs. The hotel is not locked and anyone had access to my bathroom. Once I had to actually use it as my friends were getting ready and I could not use the ones in their room, I QUICKLY discovered there is not even a LOCK on the inside of the bathroom! ANYONE CAN WALK IN AT ANYTIME!!! I was NEVER Comfortable the 2 nights I stayed here due to this. It felt like a dorm room with the bathroom down the hall and you have to bring your toiletries with you every time. Also, I am a light sleeper and look for black out shades on a hotel listing as this one also states it has. It has blinds but no blackout shades and curtains are decorative and only cover 1/4 of the windows. When I went to check out, I brought my concerns up to the owners/managers and all they replied with was "OK". After paying almost 400$ a night to stay here I expected a little more professionalism than that. They were very nice to my friends who got married and the hotel it's self is cute, but the fact that they CLEARLY lie about the room itself I could NEVER endorse this busniess.

Room tip: Avoid room 7 no private bathroom

We were very surprised to hear you were so unhappy with your room, since the wedding party had rented all the rooms at the hotel for the weekend and everyone was over the moon! It was such a tremendous pleasure having everyone. We can assure you that all of our communications and marketing materials are completely accurate. To address some of your concerns: we have a very thorough description of the bathroom in this room on our website. It has always stated: "A newly remodeled private bathroom with shower is located NEXT DOOR to the room (not en suite), with a privacy door separating the room and bathroom from other guest rooms." As you booked on our own website, I'm sure you would have seen this description. There have always been blackout shades in all the windows in that room and a lock on the bathroom, and we confirmed that they're working just fine. It is true that the bathroom only locks from the inside... Although no other guests go to that floor, no one else uses the bathroom, it is private to that room. But thanks to your feedback we are working to have this doorknob replaced and keyed with the room so that it is always locked from the outside.

Hotel is right in the heart of town. The rooms are good size. Bathrooms not so much but functional. Bed was very comfortable. Breakfast in a crate at your door every morning. Very nice. Would stay again. No front desk or service. French restaurant right downstairs with a bar.

When I arrived at this hotel, I was assigned a small attic room that was extremely hot. Although there is a small cooling vent that comes into the room, the cooling output is next to nothing. It seemed impossible to get the room cooler than 80 degrees. The thermostat did not work and the owners chose NOT to put an individual cooling unit in the room. As I was sweating, I called the staff and all I got was a lot of excuses and a box fan. If I had known that I would be paying $500 per night for a hot attic room with a box fan, I never would have reserved the room.

Furthermore, the room was so small that I could not walk along the sides of the bed. The ceiling was also low and I found myself literally crawling into bed from the foot of the bed. The pictures of the room that are on Kayak and Booking.com were of a nice room and not of the room that I actually got.

A couple of our rooms at The Sydney do have [we think very charming] knee walls, but categorizing this as an "attic room" is very misleading. There is an AC unit in this room, which we verified was, and is, operational. It having been the hottest week of the summer during your stay, we understood that it was still been warmer than desired, hence our addition of a box fan at your request. When guests book via an online travel agent (such as Booking.com, etc.), we are not able to offer all rooms on those sites, and the customer misses out on a direct booking experience. For this reason, we strongly encourage all guests to book directly with the hotel, so that we can best tailor your stay and place you in a room that will be perfect for you. In this case, however, after your first night's stay, we provided a partial refund, and then moved you to our best suite in the house at our sister property a block away, to which you seemed to be delighted. We are sorry that you felt the experience was still worth giving us a review of just one-star.

This lovely B&B is located right in the center of Edgartown! The location could not have been any better, We stayed in room #3, Petite King and it was so adorable, very cozy yet it had everything you could possibly need for a get-a-way, The bed was very comfortable and the shower amenities were very good. The breakfast in the morning is just adorable. One thing is that since the hotel is located right in the middle of it all, don't expect to sleep in! that being said, you probably wouldn't want to miss everything Edgatown has to offer. I would definitely return.

We stayed in room #5, king deluxe harbor view". Fresh, attractive room. Great location. Staff at the Christopher was helpful, accommodating. We found the breakfast basket, thoughtfully prepared to meet our vegetarian dietary needs, quite delicious. This stay at the Sydney overall Met our needs for a quick visit with our son who is doing an internship at a golf course on the island. He is 6'3" and had to duck down to see himself in the bathroom mirror and to avoid hitting his head on the steep eves. I, at 5'6", wasn't so careful and bumped into the eves getting in/out of the king bed! Maybe room #1 would've met our needs (to not bump our heads) better. 😀
Though the location was convenient to the docks and to the many shops/restaurants/galleries, there were very early truck deliveries and 7 a.m. lawn mowing. Being an early riser that was no big deal to me, but my later sleeping daughter was less appreciative of that noisiness.

We will likely return to this lovely hotel, or its sister property, the Christopher, for another visit later this season.
