“History buffs welcome”

History buffs will want to see the "Duke Bridge" on Chappaquiddick Island where Mary Joe Kapechne drowned in Poucha Pond and Senator Ted Kennedy escaped on the night of July 18, 1969. Of interest, also, is the ferry that connects Chappaquiddick with Martha's Vineyard. On that fateful night, the ferry had stopped running, and Senetor Kennery swam across the 500 yard distance through treacherous tidal currents. The ferry fee is $6.00 for person and a bike round-trip.

“Not alot to do....”
Reviewed 1 February 2012

Chappy is a little island off the coast of Marthas Vineyard. Once you take the 2 minute ferry ride over there the only place to go is the beach and I think the last time we went it cost over 20 dollars , theres nothing to do there. There are no stores or things of interest. So if you want to spend over 20 bucks to go sit on the beach, have at it!

“Relaxed and Relaxing”
Reviewed 17 January 2012

Chappaquiddick is a bit remote but easily accessible by automobile or bicycle. There's a small ferry from Edgartown.... When you ask for directions to the ferry, ask if the ferry will be "on time." (There's a local joke that's involved. It's easily explained.) Most folks make the trip in order to go surf fishing or to ride bicycles.... Not much else to see or do.... There was a famous tragedy back during the 1960s. It's seldom mentioned nowadays.

“Nice Day Trip”
Reviewed 14 November 2011

This day trip provided a potpourri of habitats - sand dunes, salt marshes, tidal flats, woods, etc. We were impressed with the foresight in the protection provided for the majority of the island. Great outdoors adventure day. Take warm clothing and good walking boots.
