The building , although really imposing is very neglected. Agency staff drafted in, we were told , to host weddings , were very poorly trained and didn't know what was what . Barman was excellent, service there was swift but elsewhere seemed haphazard. Rooms really small , dated and stuffy as road too noisy to open window. Such a shame . With an injection of cash and tlc this place could be amazing.

Thank you for your review. We are currently collating quotes for a refurbishment both internally and externally, along with reviewing all service standards and revisiting training needs. I hope that you haven't been put off and will give revisit seeing the work has paid off. If you do decide to book again, our house rooms are larger than the comfort double rooms.

A hotel we have looked at many times as we visit family in the New Forest and were keen to experience it. On arrival the outside of the hotel when looked at closely had paint peeling off. The window boxes outside were filled with dead flowers obviously they had needed more water than supplied. When we tried to check in my partner had to knock on every room to find someone to carry out this procedure.
Poor first impression. We had ordered a King size bed and bath . When we arrived in our room after passing bags of dirty laundry in the top hall, which remained in the same place for two days. We had a small double bed with shower. This was very frustrating as we had phoned up previously to check our booking and were told everything was as we had requested it. The decor was classic 1970’s and the bedspread looked as thought it had not been washed for some time. The whole room looked as though it needed a clean. We ate in the restaurant and the food was very good but unfortunately the culinary experience was overshadowed by the standards in the hotel.

Thank you for your review. We have just had our Summer Window Boxes and Hanging baskets delivered, as the winter ones had seen better days. We are currently sourcing quotes for the external of the building as we are the interiors to refurbish the hotel. As we are also embarking on a full staff training programme which we are confident in bringing the hotel up to a more consistent standard across the baord. Thank you for your comments they have been most useful

The public rooms in this hotel are quite nice but the bedrooms, described by the hotel as boutique, look like they were done down to a budget about 20 years ago and then have had little or no maintenence. The bathroom was tiny. The overall feeling was very mediocre.

I sat in the lovely garden room restaurant and ordered breakfast. Quite happy reading my book. There were only three couples and myself down for breakfast. There were two waiting staff "working". For 90% of the time they were nowhere to be seen. Occasionally one would appear and serve one of the other tables. I thought, "I'll be next" but no breakfast appeared and the staff appeared to be hiding. Eventually after more than 30 minutes I managed to speak to the waitress. She came back to the table with an excuse that appeared to be a pack of lies, and no apology. I just got up and went to my room to collect my belongings. When I went to the reception to pay my bill they knocked the price of the breakfast off but this was just not good enough. My whole stay had been spoiled not so much by the lack of breakfast but the insult of a nonsense excuse.

Room Tip: Go to a different hotel

Thank you for your review. Having reviewed the incident with the young members of staff, we will be revisiting training needs, which we have already commenced. We apologise unreservedly and hope that the next time you visit, you come and say "Hi". With regards to the decor of the hotel, we are looking to refurbish soon and give the East Close a facelift
Thank you once again for your comments.

This was our second visit to East Close, however we felt standards had slipped since our last stay.

We stayed in a smaller room, which was separate from the main hotel building. The room was very cold on arrival, and grubby in places. More attention to detail is needed when cleaning. Cobwebs in Bathroom and tile hanging off behind the sink.

It was OK for a an overnight stay to visit the local area. Breakfast was a good Menu however my partner ordered the Full English and everything was over cooked, and seemed it had been hanging around for a while.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel are near a busy main road, so you do hear traffic noise

A great experience, the staff at this hotel were all so friendly and couldn't do enough for you. We had room 4 for two nights recently. At first I thought what on earth had we booked into, the bedroom looked like something out of the Adam's family or Draculas castle ,very gothic . Bed was extremely comfy and the heating warm. The mirror was fine if you are over 7ft tall tho and the mirror in the hall was fine for checking your trouser zip. A great modern bathroom but no bath in this room. Over all enjoyed it so much going back Friday. There is recently built bar which is quite smart. Don't know the name of the barman, but a smashing chatty guy.

Room Tip: Rear view rooms will be quieter and not all rooms have a bath.
