This is a lovely, out of the way little inn set on a narrow point where the Potomac meets the Chesapeake Bay.
Staff is so wonderfully friendly, water on both sides of you, serenely quiet. There is a Ruddy Duck restaurant on one side of the property for great seafood and a cozy bar. The hotel has a well-maintained dock where the locals pull up to stop for lunch. You can fish off the dock (there is a cleaning station with hose right there) or come out at night to watch the crabs feed. Coffee pot is always on in the lobby, and a small self-serve breakfast (waffles, cereal, etc) is provided.
If you are expecting a fancy luxury shore spa, this is not it. It's a nice, quiet family type small shore hotel like I grew up with. Rustic furniture, comfortable bed, very nice kitchenette with frig, microwave and coffee maker. Bathroom was clean and well maintained. Each room has a small balcony looking out on the water with two Adirondack chairs and a small table.
For those of you unfamiliar with the Eastern Shore areas, don't expect sandy beaches where you can stroll romatically in your bare feet. It's all rocks and shale here, with tons of oyster shells. But it's quiet, you can watch ospreys fishing and sit out on the dock in absolute quiet. It's heaven. Not luxury, just heaven.

Room tip: all the rooms have water view

No words can express how much this week of serenity was appreciated.
Refreshed during last few months, rooms are fresh and clean with new carpet, lobby area updated and enlarged. This is better than home away from home!! Bikes and kayaks to rent for those who want more than rest. Can not be beat for location and value.. Staff kind and courteous as always.
Thank you.

Because it was Memorial Day weekend, lodging was difficult to find in Solomon's, MD. I, therefore, began hunting on the web for an alternative and stumbled upon Island Inn and Suites in Piney Point, MD. Am I glad I did. The setting couldn't be more bucolic. There is a parking garage, which we appreciated due to all the ospreys flying around. There is a much welcomed elevator. We were allowed to check in early (12:30). Our room was very spacious. Two double beds, a fab balcony with table and 2 chairs. The louvered doors out to the balcony were a nice touch. I can't think of anything that was lacking. The breakfast was HoHum, but everything else was great. There is a restaurant next door but it doesn't open until 4:00.

Room tip: All rooms have balconies with fabulous water views. However, if given a choice, I would pick a room not on the street side.

My husband and I just returned from a trip to the Island Inn and Suites where we took our 13 year old son and a friend. I think it says a lot when 2 teenage boys spend little to no time in front of a screen for the weekend! They thoroughly enjoyed all the activities on offer at the hotel--kayaking, bike riding and simply crabbing, swimming and fishing off the dock. Despite the hotel being full due to a college graduation in the area, we were well taken care of. The restaurant next door was delicious, so much so that we ate there both nights. This was our second visit to this hotel and we will definitely be back. The suites are spacious and clean and the view can't be beat. We are thinking to make this a yearly trip!

Room tip: Ask for a room facing the dock--that way you won't have the parking lot between you and the water view.
