Trimper's Rides, the old-fashioned, children's amusement park on the boardwalk at Ocean City, Maryland, is a wonderful remnant of 1930s and 1940s amusement culture. The carousel is historic and the other kiddie rides are safe, not scary, and the park carefully controls who can get on them (different height requirements for different rides, especially important for the rides for little, little kids). It may be for kids, but it is all excitement, lights, colors, and sounds! I loved it and it reminded me a great deal of my childhood on the boardwalk at Atlantic City and Coney Island. Great games, too. Everyone is friendly and the whole experience is very family friendly. By the way, the oldest kiddie ride section (bumper cars, airplanes, fire engines, a train, the carousel, and a few others are under a roof, great for rainy times.
I really liked the ticket system. Ticket booths are around the entire park. Different rides cost a different number of tickets. Not cheap but not super expensive either. If you run out, you can buy more. If you're on a budget, you can plan which rides you will ride on because they are all listed at these booths and each one says how many tickets it costs.
Of course, if you have older kids, then the Jolly Roger Park is right there too, but don't be fooled…there are a few more "adult" like rides at Trimper's too. Coming from southwestern PA, where we have Idlewild Park, another wonderful kid-friendly park, I really appreciated Trimper's because it was even more colorful and more old-fashioned!
Tired or done with the park? Just a few steps away is the boardwalk, lots of all sorts of amusement park food, a few sit-down restaurants, and nightly fireworks over the water. What ever they don't shoot off during the show, they shoot off a bit later! Tired of everything? Hop on a tram at night all the way back to your hotel! Nice ride. Only $3 per person or you can get a pass.
