Owner description: Celebrating Maine's Role in American Art, the Farnsworth Art Museum offers a nationally recognized collection of works from many of America's greatest artists. With 20,000 square feet of gallery space and over 15,000 works in the collection, there is always something new on view at the Farnsworth. The museum has one of the largest collections of works by sculptor Louise Nevelson. Its Wyeth Center features works of Andrew, N.C. and Jamie Wyeth. The Farnsworth's library is also housed in its Rockland, ME, campus. Two historic buildings, the Farnsworth Homestead and the Olson House, and Julia's Gallery for Young Artists complete the museum complex.

Small but well thought out layout. There are 2 distinct parts, a short walk away from each other - We got caught in the rain, but only for couple of minutes! Disappointed that "Christina's World " is not there; it is owned by the NY Museum of Modern Art and is there permanently. The other paintings and drawings are worth seeing, though.

This is a special little art museum. My personal interest was in the Wyeth exhibit held in the beautifully renovated church building behind the museum and owned by them. It didn't disappoint. We were able to participate in the special tour of the Olsen House depicted in the iconic Wyeth painting "Christina's World. I had read the book "A Piece of the World" which is a fiction book with the story about the relationship of Andrew Wyeth and the Olsen family over more than 20 years. My fav book this year!

Wyeth 100 is a fantastic exhibit. This is my first visit to Maine so I learned a lot about the Wyeth family and how much the artwork reflects Maine. Highly recommend a visit to the art museum.

The Farnsworth was superb as usual. We were fortunate to be there for the exhibition of Andrew Wyeth at 100. We saw some of our old friends(paintings) and some we had not seen before. Especially noteworthy were the watercolors through the years exhibited at the annex. It really doesn't matter what is on display, the Farnsworth is a must see.

This museum has massive Andrew Wyeth holdings which are wonderfully curated. They focus on American artists of the past coupla centuries (duh) with a special focus on Maine artists (e.g., A. Wyeth, Zorachs, Marsden Hartley.) but have some Europeans. We come back about once a year, and would be here more often if we lived an hour or so closer!
