Description: Gritty McDuff's, Maine's Original Brew Pub specializes in hand-crafted English style ales and traditional and creative pub fare, in a friendly and fun atmosphere. Both Gritty's fine ales and the pubs have won countless "best of" awards through our twenty-five years of operation. Our standard brews are session beers, Gritty's Pub-Style Pale Ale, McDuff's Best Bitter, Black Fly Stout, allowing one to have multiple beers within a reasonable time period without overwhelming the senses. Our seasonal and varietal ale offerings are more adventurous, some with a higher ABV, and some with higher IBU. We brew a beer for all craft brew palates. For the diner, we offer traditional pub fare alongside not so traditional specialty items. Our pub-style long tables with benches easily accommodate parties of all sizes and add to the camaraderie.

Cajon fish and chips was the best I had in Maine/Nova Scotia trip. Flavorful, spicy but not greasy. Nice selection of their own craft brews.

My friends and I had just driven into to Portland, checked-in to our hotel and were ready to eat. We headed on foot to some streets that we had seen earlier. We landed at Gritty's and we were in luck.

Casual dining and good, hearty food was just what we needed.

One of our group had the chicken taco salad, and raved about it for several days.

I had the loaded potato chips -- a twist on the ultimate comfort food -- which were delicious! The homemade chips were crisp, not soggy, and made from semi thick slices of potato. They were loaded with cheese, bacon and green onions.

Another had a reuben which was piled high with pastrami.

A variety of local beers was available and our waitress made a good recommendation for me.

If was kind of loud even before the band started playing, so we ate quickly and took our leftovers back to the hotel.

If you're looking for a quick casual bite in downtown Portland, try Gritty's.

We stopped off during our trip up to Belfast. We sat outside on a warm Friday summer evening. The place was pretty busy with lots of families enjoying a drink and meal. Our server (unfortunately I cant remember his name) was lovely and friendly. He heard our accents (Cornwall, England) when ordering a drink and he came and chatted with us about the UK General Election which had occurred the day before (He had studied UK Politics at university in the UK). This gentleman is a real credit to this establishment. Fast efficient service with a friendly smile. Nothing was too much trouble.
I had the Lobster Roll and my wife had the Lobster Dinner. The food was superb. The only small point to make is that they provided a plastic gadget to break the lobster shell (that was never going to work). We spoke to the server and he immediately replaced it with a metal one. The ale is good (brewed on the premises I think).
We really enjoyed ourselves. A great place for food and drinks with friends/ family.

What a fun place. Picnic tables inside...awesome large deck with umbrella tables and down the stairs to a large lawn area for children to run and unwind. We met friends who own tour business in area and knew we'd love it. Food was so good...fish and chips were perfect. Our grandsons got fried haddock bites and fries and my husband had shephards pie which he said was delicious. Large portions, good value price...fun atmosphere. Waitresses serve you. Busy place.
