A great place for the kids to run, the water is full of leaves on the bottom, the water is cool and there are alot of small fish for the kids to chase. great place that is free to have a picnic.

“Great Lake for Kayaking”
Reviewed 23 January 2012

We picked up our kayaks at Maine Sport on US 1 and they recommended this lake for a medium excursion. The put in area was well marked and convenient, and the lake shape was great for our day trip. There are little islands that you can stop at to go swimming or to take a break. the residents do no appear to mind outsiders using their lake. We enjoyed ourselves.

Plenty of free parking to enjoy views/picnic, and our first experience of the many clean public portaloos at many scenic parking spots in New England.

“Perfect Maine lake for kayaking, swimming, relaxing”
Reviewed 12 October 2011

Lake Megunticook is the ideal lake for a day out on the water. Small enough to get to know, but large enough, and with enough nooks and crannies to spend a day poking into coves. Put in at one of the 2 public launches (If you need to rent a kayak, you can get one at Maine Sport in Rockport and they will help you load it on your car.) Head for Fernald Neck, a nature preserve sticking out into the middle of the lake. It has many beautiful places to land. Enjoy an hour or so of swimming in the cool waters, or sunning on the rocks. Many of the landing spots come equipped with picnic tables - but on a fine summer weekend they fill up fast!
You might want to paddle down to the public beach . There is a roped off swimming area with a float. Also a fair sized beach, though the sand is nothing to write home about.
If you are feeling more ambitious, head to the far end of the lake and go through the culvert (don't worry, it is large, not like going through a pipe or anything) and head up into Norton's Pond for even more lake to paddle.
Megunticook lake is located near Camden village, so after your paddle you can go get a good meal, or stroll the docks. Or hike up Mount Megunticook (which looms over the lake) for some of the best bay views anywhere.
