My husband and I were excited to book the Surprise for a 2-hour day sail. The boat was beautiful, clean, and well cared for. The captain, Will, and first mate, Laird, were fantastic and full of information about the schooner, Camden's history, boating, lobstering, etc. We enjoyed the sail out of the harbor and around the area, and saw guillemots, eider ducks, an eagle's nest, and a loon. We also passed the Camden Light/Curtis Island Light, which was cool. But then,...that was it. After about an hour and a half, we just sat there hearing stories about more rich people who owned homes in the area and sometimes with no commentary at all, as I think everything had been said. As much as I hate to say this, if guests cannot be taken to other areas around the shore or further out, etc., the Surprise should offer a 1.5 hour sail and charge less.

Schooner Surprise is a beautiful, historic and well cared for vessel. We had a fine 2 hour sail on Penobscot Bay with good wind and some aggressive sailing. The crew was extremely competent, friendly and knowledgeable about the vessel, the bay and the history of the area so the trip was filled with interesting commentary. Blankets and extra jackets available for cool weather. Beautiful to see the fall colors from the water too.

The Surprise is a beautifully maintained boat run (and owned) by a great couple. The boat ride was very smooth, guests were invited to help raise sails and even get behind the wheel. They provided some background on key points of interest and were very happy to answer any questions. This is a really great way to spend a couple of hours on the water!

Although we set sail on a cloudy very cool morning it was a great experience with great staff. Would highly recommend the sailing trip on the Schooner Surprise.

Safe, relaxing, fun outing on a vintage sailboat. What could be better? We had a great outing on a glorious afternoon. Perfect weather and perfect gentlemen as the captain and two crew. A couple of sailor poems recited, expert maneuvering to pick up a dropped cap, a short "race" with a crewmember's family who happened to be out on the same afternoon, and a little history of the boat and bay. Great day!
