Owner description: Go beyond the myths of the American South at Laura Plantation, where intimate, first-hand accounts explore the lives of four generations of one Louisiana Creole family, both free and enslaved. Laura’s new, permanent exhibit examines in biographical detail the lives of Africans on the plantation, from enslavement into the 20th century. In the heart of Plantation Country only 50 minutes from New Orleans, the fully guided experience includes the Big House, gardens & original 1840s slave cabins. Laura is open daily from 9:30AM - 5PM except for major holidays. The first tour of the day begins at 10AM with tours beginning approximately every 40 minutes thereafter until the last tour of the day at 4PM. Before or after your Laura tour, enjoy authentic, homestyle Cajun and Creole food at B&C Seafood Market and Cajun Restaurant right next door.

Stephen our tour guide was awesome! Yes he talked fast and moved on quickly, but he was still great. He explained things as he could as I am sure they are on a time limit and there were other tours right behind us. The history was interesting and the home beautiful and sad. It was a good time and I recommend it.

This creole plantation tour shared a very different history than the Oak Alley Plantation tour. I recommend visiting both to learn very different stories. Do note that these grounds can only be explored in the tour- you are not free to walk them alone.

Must see. This is one of the better rated plantation tours in the New Orleans area. Our guide Rocky was a wealth of history, information, and amazing storytelling.

Side note: If you are combining this tour with a swamp tour, don't use Cajun Pride

The Laura Plantation is a Creole plantation, and the tour explains what this means. As the tour information is based on a first-person account (the eponymous Laura), I learned quite a lot. The tour guide we had, Joseph, is a 4th generation Creole, which only added to the tour. His knowledge of the history of this plantation as well as the history of New Orleans and all of Louisiana was incredible. We were very fortunate to be placed in his group. What's so notable about the tours of this plantation is that they don't feel like it's just text from a history book being read aloud -- because it's not. It creates a really valuable experience that I highly recommend.

Our guide, Reneé, was very informative and answered all our questions. The house and grounds are well maintained. If you're in New Orleans a few days, take one day to visit this plantation because it's worth the day trip.
