“Small but historic. ”

Lincoln Homestead State Park
Reviewed 14 July 2016 via mobile

There is a replica of Thomas Lincoln's boyhood cabin built on the original site with some furniture he actually made. Also the original cabin Nancy Hanks lived in is there also although it has been moved a mile from its actual site. Add a memorial to Nancy Hanks and a small replica of a blacksmith's shop and that it the extent of the park. Not much time is needed to see it but for $2.50 it is a bargain nonetheless. Take in a few distilleries in the area or visit Perryville National Battlefield and you have a complete day.

There is a small fee to look at the houses. They are well preserved and interesting. The Park attendant gives you a little history lesson before you walk through the grounds. He let us know who built what furniture, etc. There is a summary sheet on the Lincoln lineage.

The visit took 1/2 hour. I wish they would have had a couple of souvenirs specific to the site, but they did not.

This is pretty interesting if you are a history fan of Lincoln. This deals with Abe's parents. Well kept grounds and restrooms. Was supposed to pay a small fee but no one was around and no envelope to place fee in. Great little stop though. Worth the time.

This is the place to start your Lincoln trail. The marriage certificate of Thomas Lincoln and Nancy Hanks is filed in the Washington County Court House in Springfield. Many people feel that Abraham Lincoln was actually born in Washington County. This is where it started!

The buildings are nicely preserved. The park is sprawling and hard to figure out as there is no visitor's center. The attendant at the golf course was helpful though.
