Anytime we travel we always try to visit a local museum. As a result, we've been to the art museums in most of the major cities we've visited (NY, Boston, Chicago, Washington, DC, Portland, Maine; Columbus, Cleveland, Omaha, NE;, etc.). So, with some spare time during our last visit to Louisville it was time to visit the Speed Art Museum. The museum is conveniently located next to the University of Louisville which made it easy to find and there is a parking garage located right next door to the museum.
The Speed Museum has a beautiful new addition that has a very sleek modern design but they have done a good job of tying the new and old sections of the museum together without losing the appeal of the old section's more classical design.
The museum has a nice collection of art - that is grouped primarily by geographic area (Europe, American, etc.). We spent about 3 hours touring the museum and found the layout and groupings to be very well thought out.
For art lovers, this is a must-see attraction in Louisville.
