I stayed here during Rolex, and it was so convenient and relaxing. Beautiful views of Kentucky farms, nice rooms, friendly service. Can't beat the location to KHP which was 5 minutes away. Great snacks!

We stayed here after a day at Keeneland. It really is a beautiful home and our room was nice but it didn't seem like a real bed and breakfast. The staff was nice enough but the breakfast was average at best and it was obvious the place had been converted from a residence to a B&B just to cover the expenses. It wasn't bad, just couldn't compare to most of the other B&Bs we have stayed at.

We've stayed at essence of the bluegrass twice this year, each time as we were in Lexington for a UK athletic function. Where to start? The house is a spectacular center foyer colonial in horse country. A great place for walks or just relaxing in the gazebo. The most import part of the home is the great room. Unlike many B&B's where the kitchen is for staff only and guests have a sitting room, guests have access to the open first floor, kitchen, nook, and great room. This provides wonderful flexibility, more in the style of a villa than a B&B.

Most important is the manager Kaycee. She is fantastic, making you immediately feel welcome and family. She cooks a wonderful and varied breakfast, but most importantly, takes the time to make sure you are comfortable and have a wonderful stay.

My husband and I wanted to get away to horse country in Kentucky. We read many reviews, but after reading reviews for Essence of the Bluegrass we decided this was the place! We stayed in 2 rooms over 2 nights. Both were disappointing. The Keenland Suite is beautiful and very clean. However, it was cold while we were there and we looked forward to snuggling up by the two sided fireplace. It wasn't working and the innkeeper didn't know how to fix it. A very big negative for us. Along with that problem, not all the faucets worked in the huge bathroom, the shower tile is cracked, the marble floor is very slick when wet. There is a step down from the sitting area to the bedroom area. Very hard to see because of the carpeting. My husband tripped several times and I actually fell down the step. The second night we were to stay in the Vineyard Room. Unfortunately the queen size canopy bed squeaks horribly. I don't know how anyone could sleep on it. The TV was the smallest in any of the guest rooms. We asked about the Burbon room but it was unavailable as the owner's ex- wife is staying there. So, we spent the night in the Equestrian Room. It's on the first floor with a separate door to the outside. However, the door sticks and we couldn't get it to close. Not all the outlets worked, had to search for one to charge my phone. The sump pump was very loud, the washing machine was loud, the innkeepers live in the basement with 2 dogs and a child. The kids were running around Saturday morning. The food was disappointing compared to other bed and breakfasts we've stayed at. One morning we were served cinnamon rolls you can by at any grocery store and bake at home. The innkeeper, Casey, has only been there a couple of months, she tries her best with local attractions but isn't familiar with the area. The owner doesn't live on the property, if he did some of the problems we encountered may have been taken care of. He was in Florida while we were there. There's a huge TV in the common area, but Casey said it is "finicky" but she would try and turn it on. We said no thanks and watched it in our room. A word to those concerned about Internet security, the wi-Fi network is NOT secured. The only reason I gave this place a 3 rating is that Casey was very accommodating when it came to our needs and issues. Even though she couldn't resolve the problems we encountered, she went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable. We won't be back. Yes, the view is amazing, the staircase is impressive but when it comes to the little things & routine maintenance a lot is lacking in this beautiful home.
