Our group of 5 adults, a 2-yr old, and a 4-month old visited the museum and had a great time. There were plenty of interactive activities for the 2-yr old including kid-size building blocks, toys (that you can play with - in addition to the toy museum), and large open areas outside between the historic buildings for him to run around. The adults in our group found the agricultural history and toy museum really interesting! But we're biased because we grew up on the Plains. Enjoy!

With this called the Prairie Museum, I figured it would be about the local land and economy, and sample buildings. It was that, but so much more==local sample bldgs., but also 17 tons of artifacts. == First, you can visit a 1930s farmhouse, school house, church, and huge (114 ft long x 48 feet high) barn. It is a self guided tour, and you can go inside each one and see all the gathered antiques, and read some history notes. The buildings are not too far apart, and there's a nice sidewalk. ==Inside the museum building is a mind-boggling display (21,500 square feet!) built in 1987 to display the collection of the Kuska family, which is appealing to anyone, and nothing to do with being in a Prarie. Now you may think, how can a button or coin or glass etc. collection be fascinating, or worth a stop. Well, you have to see it to believe it. The small items have drawers underneath them so that you can see more (eg, maybe 50 on display, and each drawer pulls out and has another 50 of a specific theme in them). I liked the glass collection (Venetian, Steuben, Tiffany etc). Cool toys of the past, incl. many metal ones. 1,000 dolls from all over the world. PLUS: furniture, ceramics, stamps, clocks, silver, jewelry, school spirit, military.== And a kids area to play with giant blocks. Kids will like it, and breeze thru the rooms. Adults, like me, who like to study intricate designs can spend several hours here. (There are fast food places to eat nearby. and dont be confused - the bldg. on the corner turnoff is an antique shop)

This museum was cool!! We were checking out what we could do on our way home from our vacation. We found a pamphlet in our hotel and said yes! We spent 3 hours here and only did the inside because a snow storm was coming and it was too cold to be outside. Recommend!

We enjoyed an afternoon at this museum. There are very interesting historical displays. Fine exhibits from a benefactor. There are out building you can go into. A church, an old home, and the largest barn in Kansas was moved to this site.

We were pleasantly surprised by this museum. It was really a gem. With excellent displays inside the main building and several out buildings to visit, it was a great way to spend a couple of hours in Colby. A much larger community would be justifiable proud of this museum.
