Kinabalu Pine Resort

Had gone on a 5 day trip to kudat kundasang and kota kinabalu. Have always wanted to stay at kinabalu pine resort cos every room has a view of mount kinabalu. Hotel is only 2 star and we only paid RM435 for 2 rooms with dinner and bfast provided for one night . The rooms were very basic but the view was awesome. Mount kinabalu appeared majestic and close from the rooms. The only setback was the breakfast which did not even anything much to eat. there were no cereals or even fried eggs. there was only scrambled eggs. We also didnt have much choice of wine for the night. There are not many choice of hotels in kundasang so tourist have to make do with whatever is available. But the view of mount kinabalu which is malaysia's first world heritage site from the balcony of the rooms is worth the stay

Kundasang is a scruffy, grubby little highway village between Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan at an elevation of about 2000 metres on the rugged slopes of Mt Kinabalu. With lots of road works currently underway it’s a nightmare to navigate the fruit & vege stalls and smelly fish markets dodging potholes and muddy puddles and avoiding reckless trucks.
The primary function of this village is to service the needs of people going to nearby Mt Kinabalu.

Kinabalu Pine Resort is 500 metres south of the village roadside stalls and appears to be the best accommodation in the area. We stayed in the deluxe rooms which were very comfortable with queen bed, clean bathroom (limited hot water) and large porch with commanding views to Mt Kinabalu.

Food at the resort was ok but soon became same/same, so we were happy to walk into the village and eat at the local muslim cafes.

We booked the 3day/2night package through Borneo High Country Tours which also included pickup and return to K.K. We thought it was reasonable value.

This is not a “Resort” but a comfortable hotel to base yourself for a few days in the Kundasang area.

My husband and i went to Kinabalu Pine Resort on Mac 2011 through a package provided by Holiday Country & Tours.. Eventhough it was a long rainy day during our visit to Sabah, yet I would say that we enjoyed the trip sooo much because HCT had arranged activities for us from day 1 until day 4.

The rooms at Kinabalu Pine Resort was spacious and very clean. We were given Blok M if i'm not mistaken and we love the fantastic view of Mount Kinabalu that can be seen from our room..very breathtaking and memorable! The foods was okay and affordable too..we love the people and hotel staffs (especially our driver) for being so friendly and always provide us with info about those interesting places that we visited..For sure i would highly recommend my friends and families to come to Kinabalu Pine Resort and feel the excitement of being at the Mount of Kinabalu..

The Kinabalu Pines is a very nice and relaxing resort simply by virtue of its strategic location on the way to Mt. Kinabalu, which gives travellers a magnificent view of Malaysia's highest mountain from most of its rooms (weather-permitting). I would recommend people to go there if you want to enjoy the mountain air and get away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

The food here is also great, esp. during dinner time when you can enjoy piping hot steamboat in a cool environment. However, do not expect too much of the rooms though, esp. the bathroom. The flush in my room's toilet didn't work properly; I had to use water from the tap to fill up the cistern before it could flush properly, and in addition the water in the cistern is also murky as well. Plus the hot water wasn't hot enough even after turning off the switch for half an hour.

Staying one night here is more than sufficient. There's nothing much to be done here anyway....

The best thing about the Kinabalu Pine Resort is that all rooms have a view of the majestic Mount Kinabalu from the respective balconies. However, be quick to snap a photo when you can, as 70% of the time the mountain peak will not be visible due to heavy fog.

The rooms here are just the right size, and each room has a relatively wide porch-styled balcony (or just a porch if you're on the ground floor) shared between two rooms. Each block consists of 4 units, so be sure to get rooms next to each other if you're travelling in a group, so the porch can be shared.

Food at the resort is appropriately priced and not too expensive, and also quite tasty. Their dinner set may not sound very appealing at first but you will be satisfied once you're done. Fresh veggies are abundant and prepared very well.

Location is not too far from the major attractions in Kundasang. The resort is on the same stretch of road as the Kinabalu Park and the war memorial, but not within walking distance.

Staff is accommodating and friendly, yet respect your privacy enough for you to enjoy the stay without constantly being bothered.
All in all I had a wonderful stay at Kinabalu Pine Resort, and would definitely stay here again if given the opportunity to visit Kundasang again in the future.

Room Tip: Get rooms nearer to the restaurant.
