Both historic and nicely updated inn with 15 distinct rooms. Delicious hot breakfast and a sweet treat upon check-in, and we enjoyed using the common room to eat take-out pizza from Casey's and play cards after a long travel day. The owners are very friendly and helpful in deciding what to see in the Amana Colonies, and Homestead is just 3 mi away from Amana itself (which is where most of the historic sites and antique shops are).

Room Tip: Rooms vary widely in size and # of people. Our family stayed in the Four Seasons Suite, which is a 2B/1Ba.

First, thank you for staying with us. Secondly, thanks for your review of Zuber's. I am happy you enjoyed your time here and hope that if you are back in the area or needing a place to get away to, please think of Zuber's as your home away from home.

Again, thanks for staying with us and hope to see you again.

Thanks
Brian

We had a few days off at work, so what better decision than to go where it's sure to be colder and have bad weather. Yep, that was us. We left Illinois and headed to Iowa -- not that the weather in Illinois was any better, but at least we would have known the roads.

Anyway, we stayed three nights at Zuber's Hotel/Bed & Breakfast. It was a great property and we felt pretty comfortable there during our stay. And stay we did. There were a few times that we really couldn't get further than a few miles in any direction due to the snow/cold/streets (no one's fault of course, but if the place was NOT comfortable, it would have been a much poorer experience).

Brian and Bonnie were nice people who were helpful and made suggestions of local places. The staff (two ladies - I didn't get their names) were delightful and made the visit even more special. Great cooks!

A good solid recommend - but if you go in late December, be mindful of the weather.

Another awesome stay at Zuber's. This is our third time here and the are consistent in their hospitality and cleanliness. This time we stayed in the Trumpeter Swan room. Beautiful colors, furnishings, and an awesome bathroom! We'll be back again in the spring!

Stayed in the Whitetail room – probably the largest hotel room we’ve ever stayed in. Very comfortable. What you see in the photos on their website is accurate. We stayed for two nights and enjoyed both. Just a couple of comments. The room had an odd - - old smell to it. Even after opening the windows for a night it did not go away. Next if you are bothered by nighttime noise this building may not be for you. The stairs squeak, the floor above us squeaked and at least one train went by each night whistling at the crossing nearby. We enjoyed the stay and the noise did not really bother us. We would stay in the same room when we return to Amana Colony.

Room Tip: Each room is a little different. Read the website descriptions and look at the photos. They accurately describe the rooms available.

Thank you for your review. I am sorry the smell persisted in your room. In the past in a couple of times we have had smells but never lingered long. I will review the room and plumbing to see if I can determine a cause. As you also noted the train whistle is good for some people and some others note that they heard it. Has never been a huge issue with our guests. I am happy the noise of the historic 1860's building was not a problem for you. We would be happy to have you stay with us again. Let us know if we can serve you. Again, thanks for taking time to review Zuber's.

If you are looking for a historic place to stay filled with antiques and wonderful accommodations, this is a wonderful choice while visiting Amana Colonies. The rooms are beautifully decorated with antiques, immaculate, wonderful amenities, and just a great place to enjoy the history this area offers. Last year we stayed in the Walnut Grove Room and this year we stayed in the Iowa Grand Oak. Both rooms are exceptionally large and will accommodate 4 with comfort. We couldn't decide which we liked better! Both were great! A nice feature are the large bathrooms, mini refrigerator and microwave in the room -- a real plus! We were warmly greeted by Jo,
who works there on weekends. She is so friendly and made us feel welcome and eager to please. The owners were there and also welcomed us also. If you check in between 3 and 5 pm, there will be a special treat waiting for you in the main dining area, which is full of antiques and a great place to relax. The day we arrived, we had the best pumpkin bars! Very yummy! The breakfast was delicious served buffet style and consisted of a sausage egg casserole, which we really liked, along with fresh fruit, assortment of bakery sweets and breads, coffee and juices. Zuber's has the best gourmet coffee and enjoyed having that second cup. We had a relaxing and enjoyable stay at Zuber's and so will you! A special thank you to Jo!

Room Tip: The Walnut Grove Room and Iowa Grand Oak are good choices if you want more space for 3 or 4 guests. Very comfortable..
