There are many steakhouses in Indy including the famous St. Elmo's, but our "go-to'place:"remains Ruth's Chris. It is in a good location downtown, it is beautifully appointed, the entire staff is professional, and every food item we have ever gotten has been superb. On our most recent visit I got the largest Caesar salad I have ever had anywhere to begin. It was wonderfully balanced between the natural taste of the romaine lettuce, the fresh cheese, crunchy croutons, and the perfect amount of dressing. The four quarters of an heirloom tomato was a nice touch as well. It was quite literally large enough for an entree, so i only ate about 2/3rds. My wife and I both ordered a petite filet and shared a side of mashed potatoes. We agree that we have never had a better steak than one gets here. The quality of the cut and attention to properly preparing it is the best and the potatoes are so good that we seldom get a second side. We also love the fresh bread. Our main server, Martin, was friendly, competent, and funny. To top it off we both opted for the creme brulee with berries which is the best around.
This is not a cheap night, but even for thrifty people it is well worth a visit for a special occasion--we noted birthdays and an anniversary being celebrated near us.
