While touring my Father's family heritage, we ended our trip with a wonderful stay at The Chestnut Street Inn. Jeff and Monika are wonderful, available and delightful when desired, invisible when not. The Inn itself is lovely. Beautiful rooms, quiet location, and a lot of thought went into functionality. The food was simply amazing! Chestnut Street Inn will now be the family "go-to" location when returning to the old stomping grounds.

My husband and I have stayed at the Chestnut Street Inn twice. Last November we went for the weekend of my birthday. The stay was exactly what I wanted and needed. I'm a mom of 3 little kids, and I have a career outside the home. For my birthday I really wanted rest. The peaceful coziness and kind care that Jeff and Monika shared with us made our 2 day stay feel like 10. I left so refreshed.

This summer a group of our friends filled the Chestnut Street Inn for a weekend, and again, the experience was just right. It feels like staying in the home of a good friend or family member - comfortable, easy, refreshing.

We recently stayed at a lovely inn in Sheffield, IL. We were in the Rosewood Suite which was very comfortable with plenty of room to spread out. The stories and information that Jeff and Monika shared during our stay kept us interested as well as entertained. We felt like we were visiting distance relatives. The food offered was prepared from scratch and delicious. We enjoyed the optional dinner menu all three nights of our stay. I particularly appreciated Monika's accommodation to my gluten sensitivity. Their hospitality was over the top. While there were places to visit within an hour's drive and we took daily trips, we were content much of the time to take quiet walks through the neighborhood and just hang out at the inn. We've stayed at many bed and breakfasts over the years and like the variety, but this is one to which we'd definitely like to return. If you are a gardener as I am, there is a wonderful nursery south of nearby Princeton, IL called Hornbaker Gardens.

Room Tip: I thought the Rosewood Suite was perfect, but other rooms held their own charm.

This was our first B&B experience so we didn’t know what to expect. Jeff & Monika, the innkeepers, are very pleasant, friendly, accommodating, “real” people, and a joy to be around. The grounds are pretty and the atmosphere is lovely. It’s SO relaxing there. They have super comfy beds, soft sheets, gourmet chocolates in the room, and a small fridge with water bottles. Guests have free access to soda, coffee, tea and homemade goodies available anytime.

Monika is an amazing award winning chef. Her delicious food is reason enough to go there! We had a 4-course Greek meal that was out of this world. They even accommodate special dietary needs. Gourmet breakfasts are included and served with fresh in season locally grown food. Jeff’s coffee is a must have and his hospitality noteworthy. During our stay, there were homemade cookies and baklava available for us to help ourselves anytime day or night. Meals were served in the cheerful sunroom overlooking the cozy patio and pretty landscaping. Or you could choose the option of dining in your room in an area set up with table and chairs.

There were bookcases filled with books in a nice sized living room with a fireplace, plenty of comfy seating to grab a book and chill for a while. They also offered over 1000 dvd’s, along with puzzles, games and dish tv.

I would recommend Chestnut Inn not only for a couple’s retreat but also for mother/daughter and girlfriends get-a-ways. There are numerous fun, little specialty shops nearby and oftentimes-local events to attend. We will definitely be finding reasons to return on a regular basis. It’s a hidden gem. This was honestly the most relaxed I’ve ever felt after a get-a-way.

Room Tip: Green Room has 2 bedrooms and a quaint porch with chairs, tv, table and chairs.

Monika and Jeff are wonderful folks and really know how to make a guest feel at home. Chestnut Inn is clean and comfortable. Monika's culinary creations are scrumptious. Jeff is amusing and very helpful. We plan to come back again often, especially in early autumn. We love to ride our bikes on the Hennipin Canal towpath and explore Bureau County.

Room Tip: We liked the Blue Room
