I have been to Sharrow Bay only occasionally the first time being in 1960/1 when it was 15 shillings for dinner. It has become grander over the years. |The situation is as good as it gets the staff attentive and the ambience unbeatable But it was as one would expensive. The food was good but disappointing

Thank Tim S

It is just lovely!
The welcome to the hotel really started days before on the phone as both Enid and Janet were very helpful in helping us select our room and advise on local restaurants.
The hotel is well signposted but the approach road is narrow with passing places and it is sometimes necessary to reverse.
Janet greeted us and showed us to our room which was a short walk from the main house.
The room was gorgeous with a stunning view of Ullswater from the comfortable seats in the bay window. The bed was two wide singles made as one large double, with a firm mattress, large duvet and comfortable pillows. Everything was as stated on the web site, but that can't show the lovely attention to detail in the decor, furnishings and ornaments which made the room so cosy and comfortable.
Neither can the hotel description illustrate the kindness and courtesy of all the staff. Everyone was happy to greet us in passing and would stop in their work if we engaged them in conversation. Their friendliness added significantly to the warmth of the hospitality of the hotel.
We had breakfast each morning of our stay. No breakfast self-service here, everything ordered from the menu was brought to the table. So we could enjoy the view of the lake without interruption!
The breakfast menu included a selection of continental and full English with a large variety of egg dishes. Our food was always hot and nicely presented.
We didn't sample lunch or tea, but can attest that dinner was delicious. Canapés were served in one of the lounges as we perused the menu. The dining room is cosy but not crowded, and the staff quietly attentive.
It was a very relaxing environment and we were sorry to have to leave for the real world after our short weekend stay.

Visited for Saturday Lunch to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The quality and service has to be one of the best we have experienced. We were made to feel so welcome and offered drinks in the lounge whilst deciding on our choice of menu. Beautiful views across the lake from the lounge and the same was replicated when we went through to the dining room as we were seated at a table in a small bay window.
We have not visited the hotel before and did not advertise our celebration. However the food was sublime with excellent service. Thank you

The quality and service has to be one of the best. I have not visited the hotel for 6 years but no change in the standard whatsoever, the food was sublime you pay for quality and you get it. We have recommended both the hotel and the meals to a friend for a special celebration coming up shortly.

I will be back again very soon I hope

This was a Christmas present from our son and wife and grandchildren which we purposely delayed usingand making a booking for until after the season but whilst the weather was still good.
We are local to the area so we knew very well the reputation that Sharrow Bay has, we weren't disappointed. We arrived and found hotel parking easily with a pleasant walk to the hotel with views of the lake. On arrival we were greeted with a beaming smile by a young eastern European young man who was politeness itself, you would have thought we were his personal guests! A young lady, again from eastern Europe, saw us to our table that had been reserved for us a table for two facing and overlooking Ullswater itself through a large window. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming oozing quality and class but NOT stuffy in any way. When our Afternoon tea arrived it was in a purpose made open box affair. Our first impression was hmm not much here is there? How wrong we were! The selection of hand made sandwiches on in house breads were delicious. The tiniest of quiches were divine. Home made biscuits melted in the mouth, Scones of 2 types melted in the mouth especially with home made jam and clotted cream of just the right consistency. Now which cake ( of the 6 along the top shelf) should we try first? In fact we could only eat 1 each as by now we were full, our initial thoughts were misplaced and we couldn't manage any more! Not to worry the charming lady who ran the restaurant unobtrusively yet efficiently together with her wonderful waiter and waitress asked us if we would like to take the cakes home with us. Everyone else was doing similar it seemed. The cakes were boxed for us when we left yet when we arrived home and opened the box there were some extra delicious scones included too! This with a selection of coffees and teas to compliment the food was a beautiful treat and present. A wander through the gardens with occasional glimpses of Ullswater in late afternoon early October evening with the lake as flat as a pancake topped off a truly enjoyable experience.
