My wife and I were needing to spend several days in Pekin for business related to a parent's estate. We stayed 6 nights here, and will not return if the need arises. This place is incredibly over priced, delivers poor value, and has a management that is dishonest with its customers and has no real commitment to good customer service.
We booked the room through Expedia and took advantage of a package rate. Even with that discount, the $108 per night cost was high relative to comfort of room, amenities and ultimately the cleanliness of the room.
Room was large enough but the bathroom (stool and shower) was very small and the exhaust fan worked poorly. The bathroom door was set to automatically shut and had to be propped open to let condensation from showers to escape. There was one hook for clothes and towels, barely enough room for one person.
Beds were relatively new but mattresses were uncomfortable. The refrigerator had only one setting that worked---- very cold --- and ended up freezing milk, water and soda to solid ice. The pool, while having heated water, was otherwise not heated and the water was very cold (it was unseasonably cold and damp during the stay). Fitness center was minimal.
Breakfasts were the only positive feature. Staff does great job keeping a wide variety of breakfast items fresh and overall very good. Healthy items abound along with pancakes, sweet roles, etc.
Our dissatisfaction reached critical when our room went TWO straight days without being cleaned. This was odd since the service staff was cleaning the room across the hall when we left the room at 10:50AM. In both cases, we had to order fresh towels from front desk upon returning to the room in the evening and we notified them there was no service. On the second night, my wife discussed this with the owner of the hotel (happened to be in lobby) and he assured us this was unacceptable and the manager would deal with it in the morning.
Upon check-out the next morning, we were informed our problem was being discussed, and no consideration in room charges, etc. would be made until a decision was reached. They would call us with a decision.
Later that day, on the road to Florida, a call came informing us no adjustment in room charges would occur because a "do not disturb" sign was on the door and staff could not enter the room as a matter of policy. This was completely false, clearly a CYA by the staff since we left the room on the second day without a sign on the door while someone was cleaning across the hall.
The dishonesty of the staff and management was the final straw for us. We will not stay here again, and recommend anyone overnighting in Pekin, IL find other lodging in town or in the surrounding area. For over $700 in expense over several days, the cost, value and customer service is simply way below standard for rooms in this price range.
