Modern ambiance with "hip dance" music. Food was great, service a bit slow. Too loud for a romantic dinner

Although the crab cakes and salad with ginger dressing were good, the noise was SO disruptive I couldn't wait to leave. It was nearly impossible to hold a conversation. To add to the chaos, we were in a room with only two long tables. We had eight family members at our table. At the other table were seven middle-aged women trying to outdo each other for attention.

It would be a good idea for the restaurant to have two separate sections. One for young and/or single patrons who enjoy it and another section for more intimate conversation.

The tempura shrimp was delicious but there was only one shrimp. The noodles were heavenly - cooked just right. The Bul go gi was as good as my Korean neighbor used to make (30 years ago!!!). The bone-in short rib was very tasty but they were fatty and chewy. The regular short rib is outstanding! Our waiter was delightful and was there when we needed him. Don't remember his name but he is a college graduate who is applying to medical schools. We heard the woman sitting across from us praise him for his wait staff skills. He is an asset to Shakou!!!

We enjoyed our Valentines Day dinner here, which happened to be our first visit to Shakou's. Upon entering we found the atmosphere and vibe very modern and trendy. We loved the music, which was EDM, and found that it added nicely to the overall vibe of the restaurant. The staff was very friendly and we were immediately greeted with a smile and escorted to our table. Our wait staff was excellent and made dish recommendations based on our tastes. We ended up ordering a couple of sushi rolls and would absolutely recommend the Volcano!! It was excellent. We also recommend the Diver Scallops and Shrimp dinner which rests on a bed of Miso Risotto that was a nice twist on the traditional dish and tasted outstanding. There was a very nice mix of customers from young to old(er), families and couples! Highly recommend Shakou!!

Food and service were perfect. We had four different plates to share. Ginger martini is a must. Going back tomorrow. YUM!
