Dixon Springs State Park
Ranked #4 of 9 things to do in Golconda

On Monday, there were three RV's in the State Park and one of them was the host. Cost is great for the RV world. $6 for tents but no showers.

Somewhat busy for here over the weekend but on Sunday afternoon, everybody was gone.

Lots of first come/first get spots that can't be reserved on RESERVE AMERICA.

This was a hot week and there are plenty of shaded, paved spots for RVers. The pool was inviting.

The Chocolate Factory across the street sells ice.

There are no showers, bring you own.

Don't expect to see staff members. Fires are only allowed in stoves, but it provided ample space to have a fire. Fire kindling was packed onto our stoves as we arrived. No nearby showers that can be walked to. Morning and evening chants from nearby "impact center" is heard. Pool is nice, but no heater. Only place with 15 miles to get ice is chocolate factory with very limited hours. Firewood for sale? Missed that. Beautiful natural sights. Frogs joined our campfire fun. We saw baby foxes. The spring is a nice back drop. Nice asphalt pads to park campers on. Ample shade in spots. Sites are close to each other but staggered nicely for privacy. Asphalt roads in park so bikes are good to bring if you like hills.

After out little chocolate factory pig -out, we figured that we needed to alk some of those calories off and went to Dixion Springs State Park across the street. We were the only ones there at that time at the very entrance to the park and got out with the dogs and walked around admiring the various plants and trees as well as the abundant wildlife all around us. We saw squirrels, birds, and one deer who spotted us and disappeared into the tree line., Guess you can't sneak up on them with two chihuahas. The thought about buying a camper crossed our minds but then I remembered that my dad has a pop up camper he just got last month. Wonder if he has broken it in yet? There is so much to see in this park and really needs time set aside to fully enjoy it.

Great camping areas or just visit the park for the day. There is a fee for overnight campers. Some hiking trails and climbing areas but caution is advised especially after some wet weather. One of only 2 state parks that have a swimming pool. $5 bucks per person for swimming from 11:30a to 5:30p.... Pool is open from Memorial Day through August 15th. Snacks and drinks available only in the pool however there is a business across from the Park that sells homemade chocolates and snacks.....picnic tables poolside...water slide....clean and usually not very crowded. Kids always are asking to go back there.

Great place to relax and eat lunch. Also have a really nice pool with a kids size water slide. Also conveniently located next to the chocolate factory. I recommend the ice cream after a refreshing swim.
