My husband and I took our son and daughter-in-law here the other night for dinner. The place was hopping! It is on the small side, and almost every table was filled during our visit. We know why...delicious food! My burger was very good, although my hand-cut fries were great! My husband said it was the best pulled pork sandwich he's ever had. Our kids enjoyed a variety of menu items and loved it all! We'll be back for more great food!

As someone who moved here from an adjacent community, I'm all for dining local, and I decided it was time to try Scratch Kitchen.

While it is a bit confusing to have two with similar names across the street from one another, a friend and I visited the one on the north side of Madison, the burger place.

I had the lamb burger, which was excellent--nicely seasoned and prepared. My friend had an elaborate portion of macaroni and cheese, and she said it was outstanding.

While the place is very, very small--and almost impossible to get into for brunch on the weekend--I will be back, and I'll bring my spouse the next time. And we will also try the one across the street, which apparently specializes in deli sandwiches.

Stopped here with a small party for dinner. I had he Scratch burger. Was very good. Had Bleu Cheese Dressing, Red Onion, Tomato and a drizzle. The French fries were very good. When I first received my order the fries were cold but the waitress promptly brought out a full basket of hot French fries. Waitress was very pleasant. Very nice selection of beers. Everyone else's food was from either good to very good.

It would seem they have two places in Forest Park, across from each other. Thought we were going to the "build your own sandwich place" Not. This place was salads, burgers, loaded-up potatoes etc. Missed brunch but we still got the menu on our table...

Small place with maybe 14 tables. Not many people there but took the waitress forever to take our drink orders. (Big-screen TV's were blasting away on two walls.) Ordered a chardonnay. Said they only had generic white or red wine. K. First time I regretted a generous pour. It was horrible. Rest of my party ordered beers. They do have quite a unique list. However, the waitress set cans on the table. Had to ask for glasses...

Husband had a pulled pork sandwich. He rather liked it. But, his fries were under done. Cousin and I had a burger. Thought the meat tasted off and I am sure they water down their ketchup. Had bow-tie pasta with my entree. It was under cooked and over seasoned with??? Cousin's wife had cork-screw pasta with her meal. The vinegar in it was making my eyes water.

None of us took our left-overs home.

Recent article in our local paper said that they were expanding to Oak Park, the next hood over from my hood. Good luck with that! They should start from scratch: better food, better service and a better dining environment.

A lot of my friends love this place.. so I stopped in for lunch.. I had been in when they first opened and wasn't impressed.. but i decided to give them a second chance.. the burger had actual chopped up onions in the patty.. and since I CANNOT stand onions I didn't enjoy or eat most of it.. plus I found it unusual that the server never asked for me what temp I wanted for my burger.. probably won't be going back
