Authentic Mexican home cooking. Excellent carnitas, sopes, pozole, etc. in the back of a Mexican market. Clientele is mostly Mexican and 100% happy to be there. As good as it gets. Market is also good with surprisingly comprehensive selection of Mexican staples.
Close to St. Louis, very close to Cahokia mounds.

Spanish.

This little "Hole on the wall" has is like an oasis to me. Stab lush edge in the proximities of Saint Louis, this Store-Restaurant has tons of flavor and good quality for the flavor.

I came to visit with my husband that being from a different culture was a little afraid of eating in such small place.
But the expression of happiness in his face when he tried his first "Carnitas" taco everything changed.

One of the best authentic Mexican restaurants ever! I have had friends lavish over this but finally tried it for the first time, and this place will take you beyond flavortown. Once you wind your way thru the Mexican market, you find the hole in the wall looking restaurant. Looks are deceiving for this place, the food is outstanding. Free chips with 2 different salsas to try. I got the pork Gorditas and they were wonderful. Multiple items on the menu that look tasty. Can't wait to return.

You have to go through a Mexican grocery store that makes you feel like you are in Mexico in order to get to this taqueria. But this is not just tacos - this is authentic Mexican not Tex-Mex. We were served chips with two dips and both were really spicy hot especially the green avocado one. My daughter had the red enchiladas which she was told were not hot but they were - she would get the sauce on the side next time. My teenage son ordered 3 tacos al pastor (pork cooked with pineapple) with and ate every bite. I ordered the 2 stuffed poblano chiles platter and took one home. My kids had Mexican cokes and I had a wonderful horchata (sweetened rice milk with cinnamon). It isn't a wonderful Mexican taqueria without wonderful horchata.
On the way out grab some chicharones, carnitas or barbacoa for your next meal. Also some Mexican candies or paletas.
