Just finished a 3 night stay at the Talbott hotel and had a wonderful time. The hotel is conveniently located just a few blocks from the Magnificent Mile and within easy walking distance of lots of shops as well as the Navy Pier. There’s also an L train station just three blocks away which we took to Wrigley Field.

The hotel itself is very clean with plenty of amenities and a decent sized room. However, the absolute best thing they have to offer are the staff. Everyone was super friendly and incredibly knowledgable about the city. I highly recommend staying at the Talbott.

We spent 4 nights at The Talbott in late September. Everything went smoothly from check-in to check-out. The entire hotel and restaurant staff were very friendly. Our room was a generous size and very comfortable. The hotel was convenient to many bars and restaurants. We would recommend a stay here!

Overall its a decent place.

Two things were terribly handled:
1. My first evening..i arrived very late. Tried to get something to eat at the 20E restaurant. I sat at the bar and waited and waited. There was absolutely no service offered. Not even a "hi"...let alone getting a glass of water. I just left after waiting a while. No one seemed to be bothered that I was leaving. Not one person seemed to care that I simply got up and left. There were 3 waitstaff standing at the corner talking to each other....and not worrying about any of the guests.

That was not a good first impression at all!

2. The Shower curtain was very moldy and made the room smell bad. I thought housekeeping would fix that. Until I realized that one has to ask them to fix it. How does the housekeeping justify a stinking bathroom ? These should be fixed automatically.

3. No work table / chair in the room! So, really cannot do any work in the room unless you want to sit on the bed and get work done.

4. My second day here, one of the two elevators broke down in the peak morning rush hour. A lot of guests were unhappy that morning

The good things:
1. The base room is decently sized. Plenty of space for luggage.
2. The best employees I met were the doormen / bell staff. They really cared about their guests.
3. Check-in staff were generally helpful with any needs. Things were taken care of quickly once pointed out. I greatly appreciated that the concierge and one of the check-in agents helped me to get a relatively later check-out. That worked well for me. I appreciated it.
4. The area surrounding the hotel is relatively safe for walking / running.

We had a fabulous time at The Talbott, from arrival to departure. It as only 2 nights and we will stay longer next visit. It's a very elegant and stylish entrance and Dwayne and Charles, the guys who meet and greet us at the entry are delightful. Charming, caring and jovial with a great sense of humour, We arrived early but got immediate checkin to a beautiful suite. Spacious, ultra-clean, modern (newly renovated) stylish furnishings and classy minimalist black and white decor. All top quality including the large bathroom, all the fittings, the robes and the bath products. The Golden Mile, the beach front, the John Hancock Building and The Gibson Steakhouse are all a short walk of 2 to 3 blocks and for real walkers, the river/canal and Millennium Park. are only about 30 to 45 mins. The downstairs bar/dining area was super spacious, super comfortable and the service and the food and drinks were superb. There was nothing to dislike. Loved it. Sorry our visit was so short.

We stayed here for 3 nights (room only) after reading TA reviews, it’s very good location (just off the north end of The Magnificent Mile) and it was very reasonably priced compared to other hotels in the city. We took a approximately 20 minute taxi ride to the hotel on our arrival from Union Train Station (towards the south west of the city), which is the same distance from the the Chicago River and all the good things it has to offer there. On our arrival at this hotel we were greeted by a porter who readily took our luggage into the hotel for us and lead us to the Front Desk to check in. Check in was very straight forward and quick. Once again the member of staff in question on the Front Desk was friendly and polite. Shortly afterwards we made our way up to our room and our luggage followed soon after. On the arrival of our luggage to the room, the Concierge who brought it in was very friendly and informative. He talked about the hotel we were staying in, the amenities in the room (an iron and ironing board & advises us to feel free to use space in the Mini Bar to store your own drink etc purchases), to the variety of things to do in the city of Chicago. If we had any further questions then not to hesitate to call concierge from our room or pop along to their desk opposite front reception during normal working hours.

Our room on the 12th floor was very spacious, very nicely decorated, well looked after and kept very clean. It was very nice place to relax in after a long day sightseeing. Not a good view from our hotel room window. In fact, as we had a corner room, we felt we had to pull the blinds down as otherwise we could see into a neighbouring room and vice versa. A large TV was provided with a wide range of good TV channels to watch. No complimentary tea or coffee was provided in the room, but a complimentary tea and coffee per person was provided in the lobby between 730 and 1130am.

The bathroom consisted of a double sink, toilet and a combined shower and bath. Complimentary toiletries were provided. To promote a greener approach to house cleaning if you chose not to have your towels replaced everyday you were rewarded with a 10 US Dollar voucher for each day you did to then use in the hotel bar. Pretty much meaning you only paid for one of the two drinks we ordered.

The hotel as a whole was decorated and maintained to a very high standard that had a combined bar and restaurant on one side on entering the hotel and a lobby with further dining seats on the right beyond this too. The restaurant offered at cost breakfast, lunch and dinner. The concierge even recommended a great place to eat nearby (Le Pain Quotidien) which is right next door to the hotel for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. We had take out brunch there and it was very reasonable and tasty.

Checking in at this hotel starts from 1500hrs and checking out is by a very reasonable 12 noon. They also allow you to store your luggage there free of charge after checking out should you have a few hours before you have to catch a flight or train.

Compared to other cities we stayed in during our stay in the USA (San Fran & Boston) this was by far the best hotel in terms cost, location, customer service and the standard the hotel was kept at in terms of its condition and it fixtures and fittings too. We would definitely recommend this hotel to others staying in Chicago. We would stayed here again on our next visit to Chicago for sure.
