My husband and I always try to eat at this restaurant at least once when we are in Chicago. It has a very convenient location in the Loop, it is unpretentious, the food is delicious, the portions are a reasonable size, the service is excellent, and the prices are affordable. The atmosphere is subdued, romantically lit, with an Old World aura. The noise level is low and we had no trouble hearing each other talk. I have also eaten here by myself and felt perfectly at home. If you like Italian cuisine, you would certainly enjoy this restaurant.

Trattoria 10 is a good,non-pretentious Italian restaurant at 10 N.Dearborn in downtown Chicago(On the west side of the street). Located at the basement level(There is an elevator) , it is warm,cosy and romantic. Valet parking is available ($12, for dinner/theater : $14).Food is typical Italian,the highlight being the home-made ravioli. Most dishes can be ordered in appetizer or entree sizes. For the 3 ravioli dishes we had (asparagus,spicy sausage and butternut and acorn squash) prices were $9/$17 depending on the size choice. We had wild mushroom crostini(very good),3 appetizer size ravioli(Unfortunately no lobster ravioli was on the menu), a glass of 2010 pinot blanco(excellent) and profiterol(Big portion,suggest sharing) for desert. We liked the asparagus ravioli best. It had very good taste and interesting texture. Sausage ravioli was OK but not much different in taste than the spagetti with meatballs we make at home! Service was excellent. The total bill with tax and 20% service was $87 for 2 which we found reasonable.although our wine intake was limited.

Trattoria 10 is one of the first Guaranteed Green Restaurants, having been awarded this listing in 2010(Criteria: Conserving water and energy,using non-toxic cleaners,waste recycling etc.).

All I ever need is pasta. The salad was good too but homemade raviol? What else does one need> excellent; (Small portion with salad is quite sufficient except for big fellas.. then get the full portion.

I have dined at many East Coast Italian restaurants. One always has to consider whether it is "Italian American" or Italian cuisine. The former, if modestly priced, may have spaghetti & meatballs or veal parmigiana on the menu. If expensive, it may call itself "Northern Italian" although there is nothing on the menu that is distinctivey from Bologna, Parma, Milan,etc. [I will omit complete charlatans like Olive Garden.] Italian restaurants indicate that pasta, risotto or soup is the first couse and it is sized appropriately, and then a main course which is not large. Trattoria No. 10 is a true Italian restaurant. The ravioli were the best I have eaten outside of Italy -- when they say "home made" they mean it AND a machine was probaby not used because the pasta dough was gossamer thin (as Marcella Hazan notes, when making the dough, one rolls it out and stretches it-- one does not compress the dough). Most unusual for an Italian restaurant, Trattoria No. 10 goes to great lengths to source locally and to use organic products. The wine list was excellent, and had good choices (price wise too). Finally, the server was intelligent, responsive, and courteous without being overly attentive. My group (from the East Coast, West Coast and two other countries) were very pleased with our choice of restaurant.
