This was our very first stay at Camari Gardens and we chose it purely because of the Tripadvisor reviews. This hotel has excellent reviews and you can certainly see why, as they really are an accurate reflection of what a holiday is like at Camari Gardens. We've just come back from 2 weeks at the hotel and it was the most relaxing 2 weeks ever. We felt like we'd been on holiday for weeks after just a few days.
We feel that we should comment on the earlier review about the farm animals, as we were there at the same time as the other guest. There is some land at the rear of the hotel on which there is a cockerel and some hens. There were geese, but these have since been moved. Our room was right next to this land. Admittedly, we did hear the cockerel in the morning, but the location of the hotel is so peaceful that it's unavoidable. It just adds to the experience of being in a peaceful setting, without the noise of traffic and bars, which you would certainly get elsewhere. The cockerel didn't affect us at all and any disturbed sleep that we had was down to being in a different bed, without our luxury pillows and it naturally being a different climate to what we're used to!!
That aside, there are 2 things that stood out about this hotel. Firstly, we have never been to a place before where there is such repeat custom. You could count on one hand how many people were first-timers. The rest had been there on a number of occasions and just kept coming back. The staff (mostly family members) treat you as part of the family and they create such a great atmosphere. It was so sad leaving today and getting hugs off all the staff. We've been going on holiday to different hotels for years and have never experienced this before.
Secondly, the food was amazing. We're not creatures of habit, and ordinarily we would have liked to have eaten in different places most nights, as Greece has so much to offer in terms of the taverna eating experience, but we ate at Camari Gardens on 12 out of our 14 nights. The food was amazing and all freshly cooked. It was so reasonably priced too.
We would like to mention the pottery shop in the Gerani village, which is a few hundred metres uphill from the hotel. The shop is new this year, so has seen little in terms of custom, as it's not a natural through road. We passed it on a number of occasions before going in to look around. The pottery is all handmade, hand-decorated and moreover inexpensive. Most pieces are less than 10 Euros and you'd easily pay £30-£50 in the UK for some of their pieces. We'd definitely recommend it.
If it weren't for us already having booked our holiday next year, we'd definitely be returning here then. We will be coming back in 2019 for our summer holiday!

We (2 adults + 12 and 10 year old kids) stayed at Camari Gardens for a week at the end of August. The apartment was large with two day beds and a kitchen in the main room and a separate twin bedroom. The hotel was full but there were still plenty of sun loungers around the two pools and enough safe space to keep the kids happy. The food in the hotel was of an excellent standard and reasonably priced. Each member of staff we encountered was friendly and helpful and we were made to feel welcome from start to finish. The hotel is situated in a rural area which enhanced the Greek experience. The place is very relaxing despite a few cockerels sounding off in the morning, which really just adds to that experience. Gerani village is a short walk away and it has several tavernas, a couple of which do good food. Rethymnon isnt too far away and is well worth a visit to the lovely Old Town.
It is a testament to the hotel owners that a lot of the other guests were repeat visitors. This is the first hotel that we've stayed in that we will be coming back to.

We visited the Camari Gardens in August 2017 after reading tons of great reviews, and it was safe to say that they largely hit the nail on the head. The location is sunken into the mountain side with a small beach area at the bottom and a small town a 10 minute walk up the road.

First and foremost the room and pool facilities were of a very high standard. We shared a room for 3 people and had lots of space, standard cooking appliances (toastie machine, refrigerator, two hobs and a kettle), a wall mounted television, a nice bathroom and for a small surcharge a fantastic air conditioning unit.

The hotel has two reasonably large pools each with a child's pool attached and plenty of sun beds which get varying levels of sun and shade throughout the day depending on their position. There is also a nice bar area which does offer a large menu of food and drink. The staff that run both the bar and the reception area are very friendly and always try to help with any issues.

The hotel has a bus service that runs to the nearest large town which has a lot of fantastic restaurants, a nice beach and a good market/range of shops. There are a few restaurants in the local town if you don't fancy the bus or hotel, and there is also a small shop next to the hotel.

My hubby and I visited for a week in August. We had a fabulous holiday and will definitely return. We had room 218, it has a huge balcony which overlooks the pool. The room was very quiet and spotlessly clean. The food and wine at the onsite restaurant was amazing and the staff could not have done more to make us feel welcome. We visited the little cove and had food at the taverna at the side of the beach. We also ate at the restaurants in the village. All we're really lovely. Just a little tip, if you walk up to the village ask the staff to show you the short cut! We did not find this until the end of our holiday and although it only saves 5 or 10 minutes, I was very grateful in the Grecian sunshine. The bus to Rethymon is arranged at reception for 1.8 euros each way and is really worth a visit. We caught a taxi back to the accommodation for 12 euros.
