If you are visiting Venice I recommend staying on Lido. You get more for your money and San Marco is only a 10 min water bus ride away. I loved Hotel Helvetia. It's a 2 min walk from the main Lido water bus station, and 10 min walk to the beach. The breakfast is awesome, they have an automatic pancake maker. It's on the main street on Lido and surrounded by shops and restaurants.

I visited this hotel in june 2017 because of work. It is a simple hotel but it lays near the boats (vaporetto's). My company had chosen the hotel. They paid a lot for a 2-3 star hotel with a 4-5 star prize. The rooms are clean. There is free wifi and a continental breakfast. I lengthened my stay myself and paid for a single room. It was much cheaper than my company had paid. Only difference was the bed. My company paid for a room with double bed and I myself for a single room with 1 bed. You get what you paid for is their motto. My thought is that they were not overbooked. If they had let me keep the bigger room in stead of moving me to the single room for 1 night they could have earned more points in my appreciation of the hotel.

Myself & my wife have just come back from this hotel being there twice before.in 1997. our honeymoon & 2007 our 10th anniversary so we decided to go back for our 20th,

Since my last review of this hotel I can tell you it has improved, The character has not changed, It still has that old charm Venice look with nice furniture etc
The reception lady was excellent, she booked us in with no problems, told us exactly where our room was etc, The room we had was very good on the 3rd floor on a corner looking out to the road. The bed was large. plenty of wardrobe space, plenty of room to move around. air conditioning, fan, television. good bathroom with shower over the bath. hairdryer for the wife & plug for the razor,
The breakfast we had has vastly improved since the last time in 2007, The food is now lined up in the middle of the breakfast room so you can now help yourself, There are a selection of cereals. fruit. jam . hams .cheeses. cakes, crossants to name but a few,
You can have as much or as little as you want, The tea & coffee are out of a machine which is good , The big plus now is that they now have 3 very good waiters that clear up your table. make the room & tables presentable & actually have very good.manners (thank you. good morning) & keep the buffet food topped up,
So the hotel has improved since 2007!

This hotel is near to the vaperato so you can get over to main Venice with no problems, a 3 day ticket will cost you 40 euro's. A water taxi will cost a lot more so beware!
Another plus to the Lido is it has a very nice beach which is situated at the top of the lido , Ask at reception & they will tell you where to go,
If you want a good pizza go to Fabio's. he is situated on the main street about 2 -300m away from the hotel, He does a great pizza with a selection of 20-30 + pizza's,
So we had a good break at this hotel and it has improved, Note it is a 3 star hotel!

Just one note! When we booked this hotel we e mailed them asking if they did Gluten free food on the breakfast buffet. The answer was NO! We do not do GF food, I am Coeliac so took GF cornflakes & GF brioche buns with me to eat. although there are items on the buffet that I found out you can have,
There is also a store called OVS which is situated about 100 m from the hotel which has a good range of GF food on the shelves if you get stuck for your GF food Also most restaurants on the Lido & mainland Venice will do GF food,

Room tip: We had room 37 on 3rd floor, Good size room. big size bed,
