A blast from a trip to the diner-in-a-drugstore past, this soda fountain owned by relatives from Em's Kitchen at Hawthorne Drugs in Athens duplicate the goodness closer to home for Oconee folk. I customized the pimento cheese with smoked turkey and bacon wrap into sourdough and it was perfect. Truly the best sandwich in Oconee and only 5 bucks. It tastes like Grandma made it for you in her farm kitchen.
My boys loved the Reuben and (believe it or not) the PB&J. Another customer swears by the salad with strawberries in it.
This darling establishment is in the Jennings Mill medical plaza across from Epps. Off of Virgil Langford. Building 400.
They also have some nice, local items for sale (soaps, lotions, candles, and pickles) and some one dollar items in the drugstore which saves a trip to the dollar store. There is a drive thru window for the drugstore so I may switch my prescriptions over too. Really nice folks. M-F 11-2 are the soda fountain hours (frozen yogurt shakes). Those were just okay but the sandwiches are 5 stars!
