Went with my wife and 17 year old son. Food was truly excellent. Buffet style and you have to be prompt. Lunch was the biggest meal. The chef leans towards german style but featured lots of different options. The pork chops with lima beans, mashed potatoes, brown gravy, roasted cauliflower and creamed spinach was excellent. We rode twice each day for 2 hours each. After the first ride where you have to go with a guide and they teach you how to dress your horse, etc, you then can wander the wooded trails or pasture with your family alone. As long as the trails aren’t sopping wet, you can trot and canter. It was hot and humid, but a soak in the pool after a shower took all the soreness away. Very nice people working there. Beds were very comfortable and the ranch dogs and cats are friendly too. A great all-inclusive family experience.

We stayed at this property for 3 evenings after learning about it from one of my staff.

Upon arrival you immediately feel like you are going to be in a happy place, and we were. As soon as we arrived within the check-in area within the main house, we were greeted by Charlotte and Karen. Both ladies were extremely friendly and throughout our stay were always mingling with the guests and sought to make sure everyone was enjoying their stay.

I believe they have approximately 200 head of horses and around 50, or so, seem to be the ones utilized for the trail rides. While it was said the horses seemed to be somewhat stubborn, I found it may have been attributable to the oppressive heat and just like humans, the horses get fatigued, uncomfortable and also need shade and rest. The level of experience of the riders were segregated for better rides and there were plenty of guides and horse area staff to attend to everyone's level. A special shout out to Wes, whom I believe is the equine manager.

The food was terrific, plentiful and varied in selection. The meal times are 8am, 1pm and 6pm with the trail rides being 915am to begin preparing your horse and 215pm in the afternoon. The food area is open 24 hours per day to allow for snacks and beverage services as you require. There is a coke dispenser with different soda, iced tea, lemon aid and minor snacks available.

We look forward to a future opportunity to return to Southern Cross and I hope any of you looking for a nice respite from the daily rat race will consider this opportunity. A great experience. Also, there is internet available but one can tell there isn't a significant amount of band width as it is quite slow and this is an area of opportunity for the Ranch to look into improving.

My wife and I have vacationed all across north America from Key West to Fairbanks and nothing compares to the four days we spent here. Warm friendly helpful staff, good southern style food cooked to perfection and horseback riding twice a day safe but unsupervised; what more could you ask. Our room was actually over the dining room and was so comfortable we had to look to see what kind of mattress it was so we could get one. Kind of a BYOB cocktail party on the back deck around sunset where we met people from Germany, Spain and Vermont. All inclusive and you don't really need to leave although drives in the surrounding country are quite enjoyable. We have had better food, fancier rooms and even more interesting horseback rides but the combination at Southern Cross was perfect.

Room Tip: In a busy time the rooms upstairs in the main house might be quieter.

My husband and I have visited Southern Cross four times and each time we have had the most wonderful experience. We love doing the all-inclusive riding package that includes all of our meals and two rides a day. The rooms are clean and well kept and the staff is so courteous. We love feeding the horses in the pastures after dinner so pick up a box of horse treats or apples on your way to the ranch! Highly recommend!

Room Tip: We love the level 4 and 5 rooms!

The horses may be stubborn, but it's that personality that sometimes makes it fun. The view is great and each of the guest buildings have an antique sense of comfort. The food is really good and includes a wide variety of foods and the staff will make food to support dietary needs.Worth it.
