If you're like me, you may recall some of the old classic films where the main characters often lived in a hotel. It was all so glamorous, every whim cared for and dressing for a formal dinner every night. Aaah, the good old days.

It's not quite the same today - but it is not bad! When we returned from an overseas trip to find our house flooded, we had to seek some accommodations with a full kitchen - fast! We did a quick check and found a couple of options from Hilton and some from Marriott. We settled on the Residence Inn Atlanta NE/Duluth Sugarloaf, as it is not too far from our inoperable home and had a good rate. We were able to book a room for $118/night for the period that gave us a quite livable studio suite with a great bed, a full size fridge, a cook top and all the plates, glasses and utensils you would need for a stay. The only thing missing was an oven, but instead we got a nice breakfast in the morning and happy hours 3 nights during the week! OK, not quite the style of the old films but no tuxedo needed in the dining area, either!

But the real stars of this hotel are the staff. It turns out that we were not the only folks out of a home and staying there. We found one family who had been hanging around for a year! It made our 2 week stay seem like child's play. But this staff have seen it all, and they were there to provide empathy and do everything possible to make us feel at home. Both the manager and assistant manager came by every morning for a chat - we felt well cared for! In fact, they were some of the best we have ever encountered, always going the extra mile to do whatever it took to assure that our experience was as pleasant as possible. We were actually sad to leave!

Another bonus with Residence Inn, and indeed we have seen this in other Marriott properties, is that the internet is not only fast, it is also dead simple to access. For you techies out there, what this meant was that, unlike Hilton or other properties that can require a complex sign on procedure, I was able to plug in my Roku and watch all my own content on the 42" room TV. Yes, they did have a good lineup of high def channels, but I like my own stuff, so this worked out just fine.

Finally, as you would expect, there is an excellent business facility right in the lobby with some computers and and a printer, a beautiful pool, a good sized fitness room and even a laundry. This is a modern, well equipped hotel. You may not find glitzy old world style, but for the things that count, it can't be beat. Overall, it this was not a 5-star experience, there is not one to be had.

Great, well-maintained hotel - and the staff goes out of their way for you. Recent stay for youth conference at near-by Infinite Energy Center. Jeff, the general manager, had breakfast ready a bit earlier than normal each day for us, and was always there to see if we required anything else. We'll be back!

My family and I travel often. We visited this hotel with friends who stayed in another room. Even before arrival the staff was being helpful. Joshua offers exceptional service in person and over the phone. The location itself is very convenient to 85 and traffic isn’t oppressive. Free and ample parking. Plenty of restaurants in the area, and close proximity to Gwinnett Infinite Energy Center.

The first thing I noticed upon arrival was the lack of drive through awning at the entrance. It wasn’t an issue for us since the weather was nice, but had it been storming unpacking the car would have been a miserable endeavor. Seems like a basic convenience thing and not worth foregoing for design’s sake.

The lobby area is comfortable and laid out well. Computers and printers were always available and WiFi was speedy.

Complimentary breakfast wasn’t as good as many hotels we’ve stayed at but it was sufficient.

Outdoor pool area is very inviting. Water feature. Plenty of seating.

We stayed in a 1 King bedroom suite. Nicely laid out kitchen area with mini dishwasher and full fridge/freezer. Loved that convenience. Well stocked kitchen.

Pull out couch was very small, which meant that one of our kids had to sleep with me. With the room for a bigger pull out and the expense of a 1 bedroom suite I think Marriott could do better.

Bed was very comfortable. Room darkening curtains worked well once I used hair clips to clamp them shut....before that, a 4” gap made the sun stream in on us no matter how we tried to close them.

Large bathroom. Their little complimentary shampoo/conditioner/lotion was actually high quality. Usually I ignore the hotels’ little toiletries but these were worth using.

My only complaint with the room was the outlets. Though ample and located in convenient places, all of the outlets were installed wrong, making it very difficult to keep things plugged in.
