Chris was an amazing tour guide that lead us on an amazing kayaking trip. It was a great way to see the natural Georgia mash and we were the only people in sight making it truely nature immersion. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to see the natural beauty and get light exercise!

We had a great time on the kayak tour through cathead creek and buffalo swamp. Chris was a fantastic guide. He kept us entertained with his stories and was very solicitous. We enjoyed it very much.

We rented a kayak, and just did our own tour, next time we will be sure to take a guide.
I enjoyed the river and wildlife, saw gators, dolphins, birds. I think having a guide would very nice.

Our guided kayak tour with the owner of Altamaha Coastal Tours, Danny, was one of the highlights of our recent trip to the southern Georgia Coast. We have been on other kayaking tours before, both saltwater and freshwater, and this one was definitely the best.

Danny was an excellent guide, and very courteous to boot, as he picked us up from the inn where we were staying. We booked a three-hour tour through cypress stands and freshwater marshes on the Cathead Creek Loop. Compared to other kayak tours we’ve taken, we enjoyed this one the most because Danny let us take things at a leisurely pace. This is important to us because we’re dedicated birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts, and the main purpose of our adventure was to see and enjoy the unique plants and animals of this ecosystem. Danny never rushed us, and throughout the tour, he shared his vast cultural, historical and natural knowledge of the area. Though he humbly downplayed his bird knowledge, he was able to sight birds in the air and identify them without binoculars, which was great. He also knew much about the plants of the area, both native and invasive, and pointed them out as we went. We also saw four alligators on our trip, ranging from small to large.

In addition to his knowledge, we also appreciated Danny’s unassuming manner. Even though we’ve kayaked a few times before, we’re not experts by any means, and he let us figure out how to steer as we went, without any type of pressure. This was the best way to learn, and I never felt like I was truly messing up…even when I was. He let us learn by experience and never rushed us or slowed us down.

Finally, the trip was also a great value. Of the three-hour tour, 2.5 hours of it was spent in the water, which is much more than we’ve experienced at other outfitters, and the price can’t be beat – only $50 per person for transportation, gear, and a guided tour. If you’re looking for a way to experience the natural history of the area, we highly recommend Altamaha Coastal Tours. If we come back to the area again, we know we’ll be booking one of his other tours to a different great natural area.

Danny took us on a fascinating and beautiful tour along the Altamaha river and surrounding areas. We kayaked through tree-lined canopied waterways as well as open areas with wildlife showcased in magnificent natural light. This is an incomparable way to explore. Danny taught us much about the natural habitat and history of this part of the world. We even took our dog on the kayak and she was also enthralled. Just go!!!
