I took my two daughters on vacation Jun 9-14 and we had an excellent stay! The room was #345 and overlooked the pool and a great view of the beach and great view of the sunsets! For 3 girls it was a bit "crowded" at times. Bathroom is very small but we managed. Beds were very comfortable and we all slept great! Wonderful walk to the beach every morning. Staff was very accomodating, friendly and gave referrals at the desk and coupons for activities. We did the Charlies' Charters Dolphin 4 hour excursion and got to snorkel in the ruins at Egmont Key - Great Trip! Parasailing at John's Pass on Tuesday - special pricing! Overall great trip and great experiences - would recommend and we will go back some day!

Room Tip: Richie at the front desk is super helpful!

GMBBR, General Manager at Bilmar Beach Resort, responded to this reviewResponded 21 June 2011

Dear VinceH.,

Thank you for taking the opportunity to share your Treasure Island experience with fellow travelers. I regret your room experience did not exceed your expectations. With frequent updates including the recent addition of oversized pillow top mattresses and soon the upgrade to 42 inch LCD TV’s in the 8-story building we stay committed to maintaining our rooms at or above the standards of the major chains. It appears you stayed in a Shells Studio; our most modest accommodation. An upgrade to a Deluxe Studio or Gulf Front Efficiency might make your next visit more enjoyable. The kitchenettes and private balcony in these accommodations make the Treasure Island and Bilmar Beach Resort an even better experience. Please contact me directly when your travels bring you back to our area and I will happy to provide you with a complimentary upgrade on your next visit. Best regards, Clyde Smith – General Manger

This was our second stay at the Bilmar, and definitely not our last! The hotel consists of 3 sections, but ALL the rooms are Gulf front...not just Gulf view! They also all have amenities-small fridge (some full-sized), microwave, some have cooktops & equipped with kitchenware. Staff was very friendly & helpful, housekeeping is responsive (we asked for towels & soap, and they beat us to our room!). Rooms were quite clean (no hairs, mold, etc)...quiet...beds were very comfy, decorations nice, rooms laid out very well.
Bazzies Beach Bar has great breakfast & lunch (didn't have dinner), and Sloppy Joe's has great food too (had salads, soup-chowder, entrees). It's nice to be able to take the food to your room, sit on your private balcony, and watch the sun set on the Gulf, looking for that green flash! Or if you're in the "Shells" building, ground floor, your sliding doors open directly onto the sand & the beach loungers provided! Haven't used the two pools & hottub, but will next time!
One note (and nothing the hotel can change!)....the beach is VERY wide....so you probably won't hear the ocean from your room. It's a gorgeous beach, though, fantastic for weddings, pictures, lounging, relaxing...just a small walk to the Gulf. The 8 total days we stayed (2 visits), the beach was never crowded.
All in all, it's a fantastic hotel in a beautiful location, easy to get to, difficult to leave behind. We'll be back!!!

I was somewhat leary considering the age of the hotel, and the relative low prices for beach front rooms, but we were very pleasantly surprised. We traveled with two younger kids, age 3 and 5. The hotel is great, clean, and well maintained for its age. The beach is clean and beautiful. The resort is right on the beach, but there is a lot of beach, but that is to be expected in parts of the west coast. Can rent beach chairs and umbrellas on the beach. The pools were clean and heated, and the room (with a kitchen!) was so convenient. A ton of places to eat within walking distance, including sloppy joes! Our stay was very quiet, even though it was spring break. We were in the Beaches building, which is away from Sloppy Joes so we had no complaints at all, unlike other reviewers. Going to stay again next weekend and can't wait!

Room Tip: Gulf front efficiency in the Beaches Blg.

Great customer service. Called housekeeping for extra towels and wash cloths and they delivered within 10 minutes.

Enjoyed the marble shower and flat screen TV.

Even though the property is on a major thoroughfare it was surprisingly quiet.

The only drawback was the carpet in the room. It needed freshening up.

Very good value for the money.

Be sure to eat at Sloppy Joe's next to the hotel. Portions were plentiful and prices were reasonable. My meal (sandwich and side) was very yummy. Or, eat at Gigi's which has a great early bird special from 4pm to 6 pm located right across the street.

It's old Florida with a fresh look.

Room Tip: The elevator was tiny, maximum of 3 people.
