I drive past this location every weekday and was waiting for a good time to visit. Reviewing the other posted reviews - Mission BBQ starts getting busy in the evenings. We decided on a Thursday - around the 7:00pm time-frame.

Two couples and a 7 month old baby. Casual surroundings with a walk-up approach to placing your order, then waiting for your name to be called for you to pick up your food and drink cups. Self serve as to condiments, beverages, napkins, etc.

Two of us had the 5 bone Baby Back Ribs (more than sufficient for dinner), one had the Pulled Pork sandwich, and then the turkey to round out 4 dinners.

Total including drinks and some sides - $52.71 (with tax).

Having lived in this part of town now since 1990 - we are finally seeing a number of BBQ restaurants opening recently - and Mission BBQ got the consensus vote as being the best so far.

Highly recommend!

Mission BBQ just opened on Waters/Anderson Road in Tampa and needless to say it's tough to find a seat. But we wanted to try it and the smell was killer when we walked in. Lots of choices but the pulled pork sandwich was big and the meat tender. Each table has 6 sauces to choose from so we tried them all. Very cool that they support the Wounded Warrior Project and the restaurant is decorated accordingly. Pictures from all the branches and local police force. You feel like a real American walking into the place. On top of all that the people fixing the food are personable and attentive. The food was great. You get your salt/pepper and straws from a tool box.

We had watched the construction of this restaurant for months (a former Perkins). Recently, we were pleasantly surprised that it was already in business for 2 weeks. My husband and I tried it this evening and we were impressed with the fast service and good food. It was packed . I have never seen this crowd when it was a Perkins. The cashiers were friendly and very efficient. We had Jasmin as our cashier. We had the moist beef brisket, baby-back ribs, corn bread, coleslaw and baked beans. After you get your food, it was basically self-serve. They had soft drinks, tea (sweet and unsweetened) and lemonade. The barbecue sauces were very good and plentiful (they were on each table). It was so easy to find things that we needed. There were many pictures of military-related objects and people, firemen and policemen. It was a pleasant atmosphere, Prices were reasonable. We will be back.

I not sure which was better... The great, friendly customer service or the food!!!!

This was my 2nd time there and the sliced brisket sandwich was amazing!

Not sure Sonnys will be around much longer, with places like this opening up!

We visited just after the grand opening. The restaurants atmosphere is military and first responder themed. The food was excellent and the service even better. They were still in training mode with a lot of extra help, but the corporate message was well communicated to everyone we encountered. They could not do enough to make you feel welcome and make sure you were enjoying yourself. The first thing that struck me is that I was offered a sample of anything on the menu (except ribs) to try before you order. That is a great idea. The meal was excellent and we will be back.
