If you truly love and can appreciate good, down home southern BBQ and when I say that I am excluding all chain Bbq joints like Sonnys, Mission, Dickies, etc that don't even use real smokers or have the same old watered down boring taste. Then please make First Choice BBQ well...... your 1st choice. The meats are seasoned and smoked well, excellent flavor and texture. The surprise meat in the selection is the sausage. All the sides come correct and have those extra one or 2 spices added to them that make the difference in good eating and elevate it to great eating. Skin in fries, a spicy macaroni salad as well as a traditional potato salad are down to earth delicious. Now the baked beans? Like nothing on this earth! Tastes like a touch of cinnamon and nutmeg to tease your tongue and the hush puppies have added corn and pulled pork inside. Boy would an authentic side of collard greens be the one thing missing from the menu board? Maybe. Staff is helpful and friendly. Dining room needs a makeover and some quality A/C but every mile of the drive is well worth the authentic BBQ taste you're going to experience at first choice bbq.

First Choice was highly recommended to me by a friend, but having been there I can't figure out why.

You certainly won't be impressed by the facility, the decor, or the cleanliness. You order , pay, and pickup at the counter, but still the service was poor. I was pushed to order quickly even though I was the only customer, then I had to wait around to pay -- while my food was getting cold.

I had a pulled pork sandwich with beans and collard greens. The bun was the cheapest bread they can get. The pork was okay, but definitely not special in any way. They would be better off service the popular brand of beans from a can. The greens stole the show! Not a good as granny's, but the best I can remember having in a restaurant. At the time I didn't think it was worth coming back just for the greens, but now, a week later, I'm changing my mind and probably will give First Choice a second chance -- in nothing else, the greens will make a good consolation prize.

This place had promise. It sits in a dirty corner of a strip mall. The interior continues the theme with basic seating and a not quite clean look. This is promising in that their focus might be on the food and not the decor. Well that was not the case. The pork ribs were tasteless, hard to imagine they had been smoked, based on the pale color and lack of flavor. The the bbq beans had a strong molasses taste that overpowered them. The coleslaw was mediocre. The sauce was tangy sweet and allowed the meat to be edible. If you are a true BBQ believer that believes good BBQ should not need sauce, this is not the place for you. Service was minimal friendly, kind of Soup Nazi style with stand in line order taking. I am sure many locals love this place as there are many definitions of good BBQ. This place just does not meet mine.
