I recently ate at a Roy's in San Diego (lovely food and also location, on the water, perched over a pool and a boardwalk). This one in Sarasota has no commanding views, but has the same unique and tasty "Hawai'ian Fusion" food - delicate seafood and meat dishes are specialties, and readers "here" can see some sample photos. It is truly delicious, fairly diverse in menu, and yes, as others note, rather pricey - which for some locals and budget-minded travelers might translate to *very* expensive - though they do offer some discounts (both food and drink) and they certainly do provide nice touches for the cost, beyond the lovingly prepared dishes. Yes, the service and attentiveness all around is excellent.
This particular location, which is actually right off the Tamiami Trail (US 41, East side) is also the home of Flemings, where some local friends have enticed me to go for stand-alone drinks - actually not so much drinking (huge, delicious, exotic/tropical drinks, again not cheap) but drinking, talking, and sampling some of the various hors-d'oevres which are as mouth watering yummy as some of the Roy's main courses. Of course one can have a tropical drink at the bar (Flemings) and then walk a few feet inward to a table and go for another round (of drink and/or eating). It is indeed an elegant place, like all the Roy's I've been to, and a nice destination to have a special meal (and/or drink) with special people.
