Description: The Half Shell Oyster House has five locations. The first one opened in the summer of 2009 in Downtown Gulfport, MS and the second in Downtown Biloxi, MS. The charbroiled oysters are legendary and the atmosphere will make you feel like you've stepped back in time. Located in the historic Kremer building in downtown Gulfport, the "Half Shell" or "Oyster House," as locals have abbreviated it, serves the Southern delicacy freshly shucked on the half shell, charbroiled over an open flame, BBQ, Rockefeller and Bienville. We expanded to Florida in 2012 with the opening of our Sarasota, FL restaurant. Our fourth location has opened in Hattiesburg, MS. Our newest location is on the corner of I-65 and Airport Boulevard, at 3654 Airport Boulevard, Mobile, AL 36608. Our oysters are outstanding, but if you're not in the mood for oysters, Half Shell has a vast menu with something for everyone, lunch or dinner. Start your meal with New Orleans style BBQ Shrimp or a Seafood Stuffed Portabella. The Half Shell Salad with avocado, goat cheese and toasted almonds is great paired with a cup of gumbo. We feature daily and monthly specials utilizing locally caught fresh fish and seafood. The burgers, poboys and sandwiches are all good too. Or, try one of our steak or chicken creations like the Chicken Half Shell with Alfredo sauce, sundried tomatoes, capers and artichoke hearts. Seafood specialties include classic Shrimp and Grits and hearty Seafood Pot Pie. Whatever you choose, it'll be served with warm Southern hospitality in a unique atmosphere that complements the food. Exposed brick walls, wrought iron railings, unique French Quarter lighting and architecture frame the room. Each location offers a beautiful and unique setting for your dining experience. Each of our locations has semi private areas for your party or banquet needs. Or, just pull up a stool at the long copper bar, order a cold one and watch your oysters be grilled to perfection. For lunch, dinner or happy hour, Half Shell Oyster House is sure to soon be your old favorite.

Plans to dine across the street from the Oyster House were diverted since that place was closed. So we chose to cross the street and have lunch at the Oyster House. Not much change since it was Zoria...which was a gorgeous restaurant. Did notice the extended bar in the main dining room. We were shown to a window table and promptly Markus approched our table. WOW...his enthusiasm and personality was great and he helped make lunch fun.
We both ordered the portabello stuffed mushroom with sides of cheese grits. When delivered the grits were very hot but the mushroom wasn't. He came promptly to check on us after being served and we told him about the temperatures. He was quite insistant that he take back our meals and prepare new, but we had both consumed most of 1 mushroom so we were more insistant about only having 1 per plate to go back. The new plate was hot and very good.
A manager even came over to ask how we were enjoying our meals. Keep this up!!! It's so important to know your guests are valued!
The menu looks great and all other dishes we saw come by our table looked equally wonderful.
I can hardly wait to return for dinner with my husband and enjoy some oysters.
Markus is a gem! Not only entertaining but a great server.
If the mushroom had been hot, my rating would have been a 5.

My best friend and I sampled raw oysters and a nice white wine at the Half Shell Oyster House several weeks ago; we've been back twice. Four of us enjoyed happy hour there last Thursday and had . . . more oysters.
Success so far:
shrimp and grits- exceptionally tasty, though I'd prefer a bit less sugar in the sauce.
Fried shrimp- 16-20 count shrimp (big) served with real fried okra
Raw oysters- yes, lot's of 'em and they're fine
Fried oysters- see above
Service is attentive and helpful.

I ordered seafood stuffed portobellos expecting to be met with a lighter, yet satisfying meal. I got instead a few leaden, greasy breadcrumb-clogged discs. My wife's seafood pot pie was a pasty mess. If not for the terrific server and the fun, New Orleans vibe, this would have been a complete disaster.

Was so exicited this place just openend up. Being from Louisiana, its hard to find the good seafood u r use to. I hav e been here several times since it has opened and it was very delicious. I had the fried oyster poboy and the 1st two times hit the spot. Third time they didnt taste right. Not sure if it was a diff cook or what. If i was new and goin u would def. have to try the bbq shrimp, AWESOME!!! We get those everytime we go. And for side get the boiled new potatoes, very flavorful. Prices r reasonable, outside patio very nice, good menu, nice atmosphere. If u r in Sarasota its def worth stoppin in and its right down the street from movie theater.

Not great, but not at all bad. The fried green tomatoes went over well with everyone, though. Hope it does well.
