From the moment you see this resort driving down Casa yBel drive you just know you are about to experience a wonderful holiday (vacation). The reception area is upstairs and very small. All units have stairs leading up to the entry doors but staff are on hand to assist with cases. We were located in Block H and this is next to the main restaurant and can be noisy on a Friday and Saturday nights as this is a popular venue for weddings. Great if you are romantically inclined and have a hankie when the bride appears on the lawn to get married.
The units are clean and well stocked with kitchen utensils for those that like cooking. BBQ area is at the end of the block and free gas is provided. They are cleaned very day but this is not real BBQ

Room Tip: Odd numbered rooms closer to beach.

This beautiful spot in paradise has two bedrooms, a kitchen, nice deck to lookout at the ocean. All the amenities that you would enjoy. A short walk to the beach where the most wonderful shelling is right there in front of you. A great week to spend with friends and family. They have a great pool and a bar, Coconuts, set up right next to it. Drinks and food are delicious.

Casa Ybel is a nice resort. We frequently visit Sanibel and Captiva. The fact is that all of the hotels and resorts on the islands are just “nice”. Unfortunately they miss the little things that make these locations go from good to great. Casa YBel is not unique and not great. All of the rooms face the beach with the upper level rooms having the best view. You can hear the waves from the gulf from your room. The pools is very nice. Some of the units have no bathroom on the first floor. All have screened in porches with ceiling fans. Our unit was an exchange thru Interval and you really never know what you will get. However, I sent an on-line chat to the hotel the week before informing them that we required a feather-free room and that we were traveling with my 87 year old mother so we requested a room location near the beach with minimal stairs. I was very impressed that a representative from the resort called me on Sunday to describe the room and that we would have 5 stairs then a landing and perhaps another 5 steps to climb to our room. The reality? How about 42 stairs to get to your bathroom?

Check in was uneventful. The desk clerk was pleasant but did not offer any assistance with our luggage or provide any information on the pool, pool towels, pool hours, beach chairs, events, etc. etc. – the little things. She gave us a map. We arrived at our two bedroom unit and found a second floor location with 29 stairs to climb. So we carried all of our luggage and groceries – great exercise. To our disappointment both bathrooms were on the 2nd floor of the unit. Another 13 stairs to climb. No bathroom on the main floor – unacceptable. I spoke to the front desk staff but they said that since it was a timeshare exchange we had to take an open unit – even though they knew in advance that we were vacationing with a senior citizen. The resort was not crowed. They have two-bedroom split level units. Anyway the view was outstanding from our unit.

Little things: They charge $28 per day for 2 lounge chairs and an umbrella to sit on the beach. You may sit by the pool for free. The paths to the beach from the units are narrow and our path had some brush that cluttered the way. A palm tree branch (about 8 feet long) fell during a rain shower. That was on Sunday. It was cleared on Friday as they prepared for a wedding. The ice maker in the freezer was jammed – it was very obvious. I simply took some warm water and melted the jam – it worked fine. Did they not clean the freezer? None of the light switches in either bedroom worked. So you were guaranteed to stub your toe as you groped for the table lamp. The glass shade in the floor lamp in our bedroom was broken. Check out time for a two-bedroom unit is 10:00 AM. Not 11:00 AM like most resorts. There is no bar/food service on the beach. There is no business center. When we checked-out they did offer assistance with luggage. The staff that work the towel desk are not friendly. I did not see any consistent “uniform” for workers. So I was never sure who was a contractor vs who was on the staff. If you need to exchange towels after 5:00 PM you need to go to the front desk. We did not see any security although there may be.

I would not hesitate to return to Casa Ybel. It’s a good resort – just like all of the others on the island. Good not great.

Room Tip: Request a room with a bathroom on the first level.

We had an amazing visit here with my husband's parents. Every unit looks out on the ocean. The units at the far end of the property are the most secluded and quiet. Every staff member we saw or interacted with was very pleasant and helpful. Nice running/biking path out on the main road that's very accessible too. We didn't go to the pool since it was a busy holiday weekend, but the area looked nice. The Coconuts poolside bar/grill was really convenient when we wanted a quick lunch without leaving the property. The food came from the main restaurant and was very high quality, with great service. I highly recommend this resort and I can't wait to go back.
