Having never visited Miami, we spent hours on where to stay - South, Mid, North Beach; low rise, high rise, resort. After reading a great article about North Beach and it's diverse and local feeling, we decided to somewhat immerse in the culture.
This was a simple hotel with incredibly clean rooms and comfortable beds. Many of the hotels in South Beach were described as insect infected and we did not want to get stuck at on those.
Parking at this hotel is free which saves money but it is tricky getting in and out since the major road/thorough fare borders it. And, it can be noisy but with the air conditioning on, it's not as loud.
The hotel is about 2 blocks to the beach and you have to cross a very busy road. There's pool onsite that seemed to be used daily. The beach is a community park like beach so not as fancy as a resort beach yet it seemed to be clean and maintained. As far as the safety, I don't think I'd go at night especially not knowing the surrounding community.
Since this hotel is in a more residential area, it's only 2 stories high and within walking distance of local restaurants and grocery stores. You really get the local feeling which we like when we travel.
Highly recommend for more of the laid back, non-glitzy traveler.More
