Alden Hotel

The hotel is small and off the main road which is a benefit. During my stay there was extensive construction work in the front of the hotel. This then developed into more construction on the front terrace of the hotel which seemed to affect the wifi. Since I was on business this was stressful. The main reason for booking the hotel was that there was a pool and no resort fee. However it was not attractive and most annoying of all was that their were no sun loungers at all only a couple of table and chairs! Not sure how you were supposed to enjoy that facility. Also as with most hotels people starting slamming their doors at 6am so impossible to get a decent nights sleep. It would be great if the hotel could leave a note in each room to stop with the slamming!
No cafe/bar on site which is a shame. It was cheap but they could improve some of their issues, otherwise will lose customers.

We booked the Alden hotel as part of a last minute cheeky week away as we hadn’t managed a summer holiday. Soon after we booked hurricane Irma hit Florida so we expected not to go. I emailed the hotel and they reassured me that the hotel was fine. The hotel was in fact perfect. Situated towards to north side of south beach it was around 1 Mile ish to the bustling shopping and night life but that was fine for us as it meant the hotel was quiet and within walking distance of the beach boardwalk for our morning runs! The apartment was adequate and cleaned daily, basic but we used it as a base really. Pool was basic but hardly used and perfect for us. Reception was friendly and no daily extra fees like some hotels in the region. Hotel also handy for public transport and there is a star bucks round the corner for breakfast and brews and triton shops which sell literally everything you may need on hols! Defo use again if we head back.

Great customer service ! room service cleaned the room everyday. The pool was great and never crowded. There was nothing wrong with the room at all. My partner and I stayed here for 5 days, the hotel is more in Mid-Beach than South so just keep that in mind. It's right across the street from the beach which is nice and more quiet and clean than south beach

Many things went wrong here and as frequent travellers we are used to basic hotels/hostels. Therefore, cleanliness/nice new rooms were not what we were expecting or really cared about.

We stayed for 7 nights on a package holiday, which was fine. The night before we were due to leave the night staff charged my credit card nearly £900 ($1100) which is not a small amount, I've worked in hotels before and understand how they work - i dont understand why they decided to charge such a large amount to a customer who was still checked in!!!! Luckily i had just enough credit card limit to cover it.
The next day reception informed us this happens often (so stop doing it!?!!) and that people get angry about it. They refunded the money however because the exchange rate had changed since they initially took the money, it left us out of pocket around £13 ($15) which was infuriating given it wasn't our error to begin with. I emailed reception after we got home and they didn't give us the courtesy of a reply.

During our stay, they also replaced a lamp in our room - housekeeping then broke it and left glass on the floor, my other half cut open his foot and they couldn't even offer us a plaster/bandaid or a hoover to clear it up.

Its a shame because we liked the property but the way they handle situations (ie other peoples money) definitely needs to be addressed - hence this review and i hope it doesn't happen to other unsuspecting customers
