Came for dinner here on a Friday night in March. Made reservations for 8pm, and we were seated about 8:10. Very busy location. The side street, where half of there sidewalk seating is located, is torn up for construction. It's a little dirty and probably the only thing keeping them from 5/5 starts for me.

Their signature mojitos are a little pricey ($13.95 - $15.95), but came with a lot of Bacardi rum.

I had a "Cubano" sandwich which was good, but not great. My wife had a black-bean soup and avocado salad. They were good as well.

I'd go back and can recommend this location.

The trouble with many of the restaurants lining Ocean Drive on Miami's achingly trendy South Beach is that they don't have to rely on regular clientele. The whole place is thronged with passing tourists, many of them not as discerning as they perhaps should be. So it is hardly surprising that the eateries along this strip don't feel they need to try particularly hard. And frankly most of them don't. Take our dinner at Havana 1957. If the food had matched the cheerful and enthusiastic greeting, we might have enjoyed it more. Not our first venture into Cuban cuisine, but definitely our last at this establishment. A menu with prices printed in tiny, tiny type, unreadable in the dark, was the first clue that we might be embarking on a ride. Then the waiter wanted to argue about our choice of food, insisting he guide us. My starter of crispy plantains was inedible. So was Mrs mickchickuk's shrimps in plantain cups. We left most of our starters.. Nobody asked why. Then the entrees. My Cuban salad, a signature dish, was dry to the point of arid. Stringy chicken, vegetables that had been standing around too long. Two or three mouthfuls and that was enough. Mrs mickchickuk's fish was undercooked and tasteless. If we had felt that anything could have been achieved by sending the food back, we would have done so. But it was clear to us that nothing better was likely to come out of the kitchen. Again, we left most of it and again nobody asked us if there was a problem. The bill arrived with a charge for an item we hadn't ordered. Unusually for the US, service was included, but you had to read the bill carefully to realise. Now, in most tourist restaurants in this area where tips are not included, there is a line on the bill saying so, and usually heavily circled and underlined by the waiter. It might have been a good idea for the included tip to be drawn to the bill payer's attention. After all, surely they wouldn't want to risk the customer tipping twice by mistake, would they? It was bad enough in Havana 1957 to be expected to tip even once!

We had dinner there so that we could try Cuban food. The food and service, was good, nice location and reasonably priced. Difficult to find fault but it's just that it wasn't 5*, it was just good.

Wonderful location on Ocean Drive. We dined outside to people watch...which is always fun. While we picked the location based on the view, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of food. It was outstanding. Wide selection of cuban specialties on the menu. Very attentive service...who were very willing to offer suggestions and explain the menu. One of my favorite restaurants on the strip.
