Islamorada! Lower Matecumbe! Paradise! This older, ideally located, and well maintained property is a jewel. Since my dad first introduced me to Islamorada 45 years ago, I've stayed many places in the Keys. None, however, offer a panoramic bay view as beautiful as this one--from the kitchen, front and dining rooms, or wrap-around balcony, the Florida Bay's always there.
Outside, you're literally just steps away from the water. Inside, an open floor plan with one large master upstairs and two large bedrooms on the first floor makes for a spacious, well equipped house that easily accommodated my family of four. It's all there! Wi-Fi, full washer and dryer, coffee grinder, grill, a dock that offers both fishing and snorkeling opportunities for the kids and, of course, everything else needed to make for a pleasurable stay.
And then, there's the wonderful service FreeWheeler Vacations, namely Brandi, provides. She's always available to answer questions, tend to small issues, and quick to resolve more pressing ones. During our stay, for example, we lost hot water. During my initial call, she immediately contacted a plumber so that all three of us could discuss the problem. In this case, the plumber, a delightful gentleman with many years of experience, made two visits. One to troubleshoot and the second to install a new hot water heater. Problem fixed!
My family loves Islamorada, especially Lower Matecumbe. And now, 76300 Overseas Highway. We can't wait to return next summer for a repeat.
Three of us stayed for a week in March 2016. Unfortunately two more friends had to pull out due to illness, so we had a surplus of rooms.
The house is not the most modern of places, nor is it furnished in great style, but it is well equipped, comfortable, clean and positioned right on the water. There is ample parking for two cars - and a boat, if you have one, with direct access to the water from your own dock!
The television and wi-if worked well, and every room had working air conditioning.
There was ample furniture for six people and the insect-screened balcony round three sides of the first floor made a lovely spot for drinks in the evening.
The biting insects were a bit of an issue at first, certainly at this time of year, but we found that products such as 'OFF', which contains Deet, were very effective. The other wildlife was a definite positive, and we saw a variety of birds including egrets, and bright green and iguana lizards up to a metre long in the garden right outside our windows. We also saw large rays and barracuda in the water right under the dock.
We'd certainly go back! Loved it!
