Very cool and unique lodging. Not luxury but very nice and clean. Great communication with host. Very friendly. Great decks/outdoor spaces on boat.
Our family (6 adults and 2 kids) stayed on MV Coconuts for a few nights right before and after New Year's 2016-2017. Upon arrival it was unanimously agreed that we'd found the perfect spot for our visit to Key West --close enough to the fun and festivities of downtown, but without the traffic, crowds or chaos. We prepared brunch on board the first day and felt completely comfortable working in the small-but-efficient kitchen. Other meals often consisted of leftovers from meals on Duval Street and elsewhere, which helped stretch our food budget.
It's abundantly clear that a lot of thought & imagination went into the floor plan when the old trawler was being transformed into such lovely accommodations: the master bedroom is spacious & beautiful --featuring its own small but well-planned en suite & closet/storage areas-- and situated on the same level as the bunk room (with 2 twin beds). The guest room on the main floor was very cozy (with 2 twins pushed together to make a king) and an adjacent bathroom, which also served as the shared hall/powder bath. Even the queen sofa sleeper in the living room was super-comfortable --surprisingly!!! Plenty of space for the 8 of us to sleep well each night.
Several deck areas with lots of seating made things feel us feel more special and sociable, especially for morning coffee or twilight cocktails. The children, ages 9 and 7, had a blast watching birds, fish, and iguanas from the boat and boardwalk, also being first to announce sunrise and sunset each day from the deck .All in our group are healthy & fit, so the stairs and various levels were no problem at all --but a word to the wise for those with disabilities or weak knees.
Ray, who managed the boat during our stay, was extremely helpful, kindly answering our calls and queries day or night --which we appreciated most when arriving rather late the first night due to heavy holiday traffic coming south from Miami. The Marina itself is also quite a marvel; we enjoyed walking the grounds, looking at the variety of boats and visiting with other friendly travelers. All in all, we enjoyed our stay on MV Coconuts more than we'd anticipated. We never had the crowded, cooped-up feeling we sometimes experience while staying in hotels; and the uniqueness of the boat itself helped to make for a unique, relaxing, comfortable, and flexible visit to the Keys. It was expensive, but well worth it.
We loved our stay on MV Coconuts so much so that we extended it! The boat is very comfortable and dog friendly, it had all the comforts of home. Showers were a good pressure with plenty of hot water, the boat interior offered plenty of space and beds were comfortable. It was wonderful to see both the sun rise and set from the decks. Some toiletries were provided, toilet paper etc. Very unique accommodations. Parking onsite and carts for loading/unloading bags very convenient. It's a gated marina and we felt extremely safe. The dogs had a great time as well. The are some grassy areas near the parking lot and some posts providing doggie bags for pet waste. Ray the property manager was also great and very helpful when needed. The Marina was awesome - one of the nicest we've seen - with a nice pool and private beach area - and we loved that there were servers to take food and beverage orders both pool and beach side. It's about a $25 cab ride to the downtown area, it was nice to be far enough away for peace and quiet but not too far from he action. Very relaxing stay, would do it again in a heartbeat.
Booked M/V Coconuts as three of the party were used to being on the water, sailing backgrounds, so thought this would be different and it certainly was. Marvelous renovation of a trawler, nice that she got a new life giving pleasure. Well stocked with everything you might need and if you don't want to cook on board the marina yacht club has a very nice restaurant, along with being able to use the pool and gym facilities. Plenty of room, especially if the weather is good, which for us unfortunately we hit a cold spell, although we did enjoy a couple of hours sunning on the fore deck. Showers had abundant hot water with good pressure, towels and shampoo etc provided as expected in accommodation. Extremely well cared for. Well moored up so no rocking and rolling due to the winds that we experienced. Ray, the site manager explained everything to us well and gave us the number of the local taxi service so we could get to town when needed, no worries of having a drink and driving. Had issues with the heating system, engineers attempted to fix so that was reported that it did not happen and also the downstairs tv would not connect, although the tv in the upper bedroom did work. We have been awarded a refund for inconvenience which is much appreciated. Very quiet, peaceful setting. The nearby naval base gave interesting displays of fighter jets practicing in and out of the base. Local supermarkets are not far away if you need to stock up. Yes would come again if the opportunity arose.
Air conditioning doesn't reach upper levels. Almost $600.00 taxes were a complete surprise.Enjoyed Key West & super boat races.
