“A great place to get citrus, so-so for the food”

This place has its own citrus pickers, apparently contracting with local growers. The main activity is packing and shipping a wide variety of oranges. Really good stuff. There is an adjacent outdoor snack bar where the food is ok but not great.

“well worth the $5 fee”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 February 2012

Not for small children (under age 6) - they would find it boring - for older children and adults very interesting - one hour tour of packing area and orange sorting and cleaning area - and lots of "orange" information. Includes a tasting of different types of oranges and grapefruits and juice. Our second visit with guests from out of the area and enjoyed it both times. Only problem was equipment was loud and microphones were pretty soft.

Hi! Thank-you for commenting about the tour that you took. Lots of folks tell us they bring their 'out of town company' for a tour at Al's and we are grateful that you've come a second time! You are right, our tours are designed for school aged children through adult, and though we try to keep things moving, the little ones enjoy the time out in the 'OJ Corral', while older children enjoy both. Yes, the equipment outside where we wash, grade and polish fruit is very loud. You must have been on a tour where one of our microphones was not working very well. We got new mics 2 days ago, so I'm hoping they will help our voices be a little louder! Looking forward to seeing you at Al's Family Farms in the future!

“unique setting”

nice little hidden oasis, average food not bad but nothing spectacular. I would stop if in the area but wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to go there.

“Great tour, food, fruit and people”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 February 2012

We took the tour and lunch combination at Al's Family Farm and thoroughly enjoyed it! The trivia at the start of the tour was very educational and the guides did an excellent job of providing information and answering questions. The samples were delicious!!! The lunch was very good and for $5 you could not go wrong! While children might not like educational part of the tour they will enjoy seeing the equipment in operation. Also, there is a special area set up where children can have lots of fun--grandparents can have fun there aso!

We're glad we made the trip to take the tour and will stop again if we are in the area.

Hi Minnesota friends!! It was great to have you for a Tour of our Citrus Wash-line and Packinghouse. After all that Citrus Trivia, fruit and juice sampling, watching our fruit get washed, sorted and packed - you should be real fruit experts!! Sounds like you got the lunch tour, which includes lunch at our Red Barn Grill following the tour, and we're real glad your lunch was tasty. You mentioned our new 'OJ Corral' citrus agri-exhibit. You are right, we've found that all ages can find something to enjoy out there, from little kids to 'big' kids. Thanks for coming to visit & for taking time to write of your experience at Al's Family Farms.

“Try their samples”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 January 2012

We didn't take any tours, but did buy some delicious oranges after sampling their orange juice which was very sweet and delicious as well as numerous samples or oranges. People really friendly and helpful - they seem to like working at this place!
