Sanibel Harbour Marriott Resort & Spa
Ranked #7 of 59 Hotels in Fort Myers

We used Marriott points for our weekend stay at the resort, and chose the Captiva Tower over the Sanibel (main part of resort) Tower, even though we had a choice of either. Here’s why:

1. Captiva Tower rooms are larger, with small fridges and microwaves
2. Balconies larger
3. Quieter, more private, feels more like a condo than a busy resort
4. The Captiva building is rectangular, so all waterfront rooms face directly to the water (the Sanibel building is curved so many rooms are facing other rooms as well)
5. Has its own (beautiful) pool and hot-tub; both were very peaceful.
6. Direct view of the nearby causeway to Sanibel Island creates interest and frames those water view photos.
7. Since you check in at the other part of the resort, Captiva’s “lobby” area is more like a beautiful, quiet living area for relaxing or reading.
8. You can still catch the shuttle, walk or drive to the other part of the resort and take advantage of the amenities there (there is a bar with a lovely patio and view). . . then return back to your own place and breathe a sigh of peaceful relief!

Our first night we had brought a bottle of wine and a selection of cheeses and fruit to enjoy on the balcony while watching the gorgeous sunset. Perfection!

I usually avoid restaurants at hotels/resorts, finding them overpriced for what you get. . . and you are here to enjoy Sanibel Island anyway! We recommend the Over Easy Café on Sanibel for breakfast – don’t worry about a long wait, because they give you a buzzer and it gives you time to browse the beautiful shops in that same plaza (very handy to get your memento/souvenir shopping done). For dinner, Sweet Melissa Café – a chef-owned restaurant and absolutely fabulous!

We’ve stayed on the island a couple of times before and didn’t feel like we missed anything at all staying on the Ft. Myers side of the causeway, especially since the entrance to the causeway is RIGHT there when you leave the resort, AND you can still get a great wide water view. Perfect!

Overall an excellent hotel. I stayed on the 11th floor, which offered a priceless views.

Positives:
Outstanding food in the dinning rooms!
The staff is very friendly and professional.
Onsite Spa
Easy commute to the Airport

Other thoughts
The catering for the business meetings seemed quite understated and not overly ideal. When I think of resorts, I think of ice sculptures -none. Each morning our meetings were disturbed by the sounds of leaf blowers.

The hotel is not located on Sanibel Island-its one exit before the bridge and toll ($6) to Sanibel Island.

Lack of any real beach on hotel property. Average to small sized pool.

Charlie's, the hotel bar has relatively inexpensive, average tasting tapas. I would recommend passing on them and going out or eating in the dining room.

Room Tip: The 11th floor is the top floor and the best views -all ocean front.

Rooms are decent, views are spectacular! We stayed at the resort for a conference and thought the accommodations were nice, food during the conference was ok yet the lobster roll at the main restaurant was delicious (and should be at $19). After the conference, we did a sunset cruise on the boat docked right outside the hotel. A nice addition. While we didn't have time to enjoy the pool, the outdoor amenities looked enjoyable. The mini bar was well stocked for an afternoon cocktail overlooking the harbour. I would consider returning to the property for a long weekend with the husband. Options are limited to two restaurants yet the location is a short drive to Sanibel Island to enjoy other spots. They offer shuttle service on the property itself but make sure you have a car if you plan to travel off the resort. Small outlet mall is within a five minute drive.

Room Tip: Go for a water view!

I was very impressed with the staff and our view from the 6th floor was great! The room did not meet our standards of a resort - carpet was filthy, dirty finger prints on the bathroom door, furniture was scratched and the shower grout was full of Black MOLD! The rooms need remodeled ASAP!

We spent Christmas weekend here and loved every second of it. The staff couldn't have been nicer and more helpful. It was beautifully decorated for the holidays. Upon arrival (without asking) our room was upgraded to a view of the Harbor. The food was exceptional (pricey yes but well worth it) especially the Courtside Restaurant. There were special meals for the holidays. We were in the pool, hot tub and at the pool bar every day. There was no request too small or too large. We needed a mini fridge and microwave and they were brought to our room (at no charge) quickly. The concierge helped us with reservations and pleasantly answered every question we had. Valet parking was efficient and pleasurable. Having a coffee shop with snacks and ice cream in the lobby was great. We used the store for small forgotten toiletries, medicines, etc. Our favorite time was having brunch on the Yacht. Magnificent food and crew made our Christmas Day special. We tried every restaurant, bar and all of the services (except the Spa – unfortunately). We would definitely return and highly recommend it.
