We stayed here the night before we left on a cruise. Our room was not inexpensive by any means but it was lovely and spacious for four adults. The bathroom is divided. The sink and dressing area was large and roomy. The shower and toilet area was extremely small. There was some soap scum under the soap dish on the wall, and wallpaper was peeling off the wall but I assume it was due to no ceiling vent. The large patio view was obstructed by large palm trees which I rather liked the privacy.
We checked in late but the dining room was still open. The three course dinner was a fun experience. After dinner we walked to the private beach. We were sad that it rained the day we were there as we would have liked to utilize the pool and beach areas more.
The next morning we ate breakfast in the buffet. It was rather pricey but since the hotel is isolated and we didn't have a car we had no other options. It was tasty. A gentleman who I spoke with had a s'mores pancake and said it was the best pancake he'd ever eaten.
We didn't need to be at the port until 1:30 pm, so the hotel gave us a late check out time. The housekeeper knocked on the door 3 times to see if we'd left even though we had told her we had permission to stay a while longer.
When it was time to leave the hotel arranged for a car to pick us up. The driver, Chuck, was friendly and helpful. Once at the port he assisted the guys to unload the car. Once on the ship my brother-in-law realized he was missing his cpap machine. They contacted the hotel and Chuck had returned it to the hotel for safe keeping! Well done Chuck! We were able to drive there after the cruise and pick it up from the front desk.

This was our third stay at Lago Mar and each time it was on the front or back end of a cruise. I chose it originally because of the good reviews and it has lived up to its advance billing.

It's an older property and not a big name. Both of those things are usually red flags for me, but we trusted the reviews and were not disappointed. The property is extremely well maintained and the location is very private (just the opposite of the cruise experience). It takes you back to the days of the great Florida resorts and we've loved every minute here.

The rooms, though not inexpensive, are only marginally more than the airport hotels but the experience is well worth the few extra dollars. They are extremely clean and spacious, and my wife loves the comfort of the beds.

We always have the breakfast buffet which is very high quality and never overcrowded. The dinner service is the same. This is the beauty of the place. Although it's big, it never seems overcrowded. It definitely has a resort/club feel. The private beach is the icing on the cake.

This cruise, we booked 2 suites on the outbound and two when we got off the ship. When we came back 7 days after our first visit, the manager Erich, knew we were just here a week ago and upgraded both our suites. Now we know that there had to be some empty suites for him to do that, but it's just an example of the kind of service you get here from the bellmen all the way up to the hotel manager. Five star all the way.

It just makes you want to choose this spot on your next visit.

And we surely will.

We have been coming to Lago Mar from Canada on a yearly basis for the last several years. We never stay anywhere else because our experience at Lago Mar has been uniformly excellent. The hotel has a classic European feel. It is a short ride from the airport but once you arrive, you feel that you are away from the city. The grounds and beach access are superb. The people and service are exemplary. Will be back next year.

Love the unique character of this hotel. This was my 4th stay---came here in 1972, 1990, 2015 and 2016. Service is wonderful. You never have to leave the resort. Was disappointed with our room. The location and view (lack of) were a bummer. Also, last time we had a suite, there was a full kitchen. This unit had a kitchenette. And the rug had an awful musty odor in one area. Housekeeping tried to clean. It then smelled musty with chemicals on top. My family didn't want to switch rooms since they had unpacked already.

Still love the place. Next time I will be more vocal about my complaints to management, instead of whining on TripAdvisor!

We had a early morning flight and after a short cab ride we were warmly greeted at this beautiful hotel. Our room was ready and clean and spacious. Yes, a bit dated, but it had all the amenities including an in room safe. The property is old school Florida gorgeous. Beautiful lobby, pool and beach front. The poolside bar was a nice feature. We would highly recommend this hotel and will definitely make this our choice for Fort Lauderdale.
