“Good value excellent location”
Reviewed 18 February 2012

We stayed here 2 nights before our cruise, the location was great, walking distance to the beach and shops and restaurants. The hotel is a little dates but very clean, friendly staff and great breakfast which is included in the price. They let me check in early as we arrived at 10am, they also let me check out late. Other hotels in the area are nicer but twice the price, this hotel is perfect for a pre cruise trip.

Room Tip: The sundeck rooms were a little noisy because the pool was underneath us.

We stayed at the Best Western Oceanside from Feb 4-6th, (2 days prior to our cruise). It was a great place to stay for the rate we got. It does look very small, compared to the other hotels around it….but the rooms were pretty nice and most importantly, clean . Check in was quick and easy and all the staff we were confronted with were very friendly. This hotel is NOT Oceanfront, but it is a short walk to the beach. We had a balcony room on the 4th fl. Our view was of the building next door, not very inviting, so we barely went out there.

Our first day there we hopped on the trolley for only .50 cents each, to go to Harbor Shops. (Just cross the street and wave at the trolley when you see it. There are no bus stops. I believe, the trolley comes around every half hr.) While at the Harbor Shops, we picked up some wine at Total Wines. There is also a Publix there for any groceries you might want. We ate at Duffy’s Sports Bar which is also in the Harbor Shops and we really enjoyed it.

When we got back, we walked from the hotel to the “strip” area (oceanfront restaurants/shops/bars) to see what was there. It is only about a 10-15 minute walk. It is a very nice walk along the beachside’s “boardwalk”.

The next day we went to the breakfast buffet. The buffet had a good selection of “do it yourself” waffles, eggs, cereals, bagels, ham etc. After breakfast we spent most of the day on the beach. We rented chairs from the hotel for $5 each per day ($20 deposit). They are sports chairs, so it is easy to carry. They also let us use a couple of their beach/pool towels.

As other posters stated, the beach (Ft. Lauderdale Beach) is less than a block away. Very nice beach, with volleyball nets, play area etc. Unfortunately the water was way too cold for us to go in, although there were a few people in there. The view was beautiful and we really enjoyed relaxing on the beach. We went back to the hotel for some lunch…..they have a pretty good selection of food on their menu. We ordered the salads with grilled chicken and one with turkey and they were pretty large portions. We ate outside by the pool (which looked very clean) and by fountain which was really nice to sit out there.
Went back to the beach, then later on headed to the “strip” area and ate a Bumba Gumps for dinner and looked around some shops.

Best Western is in a great location with minimal walking to some local activity and is only about 10-15 min drive from the airport and Port Everglades. Food is good and there is free Wi-Fi in your room (just ask for the code. (They also had a computer in the lobby.) We had a great stay at Best Western and would not hesitate to stay there again….just wish we had a better view from our room, seeing we love sitting on our balconies.

My mother and I stayed 2 nights here in late January 2012 pre-cruise. The first room we were given had ill-fitting door locks on both the main door and the balcony door, causing us to not be able to lock them. Called the desk who sent a maintenance man asap, who then got us another room nearby. The second room was nicer, as the carpets were new, whereas the first room had older and stained carpets. The second room had decent basic furnishings, the bathroom was newly renovated, and everything seemed pretty clean. We had a room facing the pool, and each floor on that side had one long shared balcony looking over the pool with a locking door from each room. Quite a nice outlook from the balcony. The air conditioning unit was new and worked well.

Great location, just a very short walk to the beach on a quiet back road, with miles of sand and surf. Also on the bus route to Las Olas Blvd, about a 10 minute drive away. The free breakfast each morning was a very good deal, and Frank, the breakfast host, was extremely friendly and helpful with any questions about what to do in the area. He was a true gentleman and very professional. Seems like lots of European tour groups use this hotel pre/post cruise, so the clientele was generally mature. Some younger folks, and at first we were worried this would be a party hotel, but this is not the case. People were using the pool and it looked clean. Nice pool side eating area, nice little bar/lounge next to it, serving food & drink. Free internet in the lobby was pretty slow, but hey, it was free.

They stored our luggage for a few hours after checkout and before we left for the cruise, so that was nice. The only negative I found was that the desk clerks, all 3 that we dealt with, were pretty cold and indifferent. No smiles, and not really interested in dealing with the guests. All in all though, we had a nice time here.

Room Tip: Rooms on the pool side are quieter than the other side due to busy road; higher up rooms have peek-a...

The Best Western Oceanside Inn in Fort Lauderdale has a great location. It is very close to the beach -- just about a 5 minute walk behind the hotel. In addition, it is about a 10-15 minutes walk to the oceanfront bars and restaurants.

However, the hotel is not in a great condition. If you can afford it, consider paying more for the nearby Sheraton, Marriott or other options.

The rooms themselves are clean and comfortable. They have not been completely renovated, but have several new elements (e.g., lamps, bedding). However, the hallways and common areas (such as around the pool) are old and dated.

The free daily breakfast is good because it's _free_.

Stayed here with friends and had a great visit. Every employee was friendly and could tell they were happy at their job. Great pool area with a second story sundeck which was never busy. Breakfast included in the morning which the bigger name hotels don't have. Great location, close to restaurants, beach and the best thing ever, water taxi. Would definately stay here again. Rooms basic but very clean with a microwave and fridge. Thanks for a great stay!
