When you're on vacation and you bookend your trip with Townies, that's saying something. I'll start by saying I'm not a pizza guy. I usually avoid it but when the family is together, you make exceptions.
We arrived in Fernandina a couple Saturday's ago. We were too early to check-in to our house yet and while picking up some odds and ends, stumbled on Townies. I don't remember it from last year. We stopped in for lunch. Everyone in our group (10 total) was pleased with their pizza. I had a small specialty and thought it was well made and not too greasy. The specialty pizza prices are kind of high but that's to be expected and they have deals on other pizza sizes and toppings that are extremely attractive.
We have about a 6 hr drive home, up I95, then I26 and I77 and the food options are pathetic until you get to Columbia and even then, you have to sidetrack yourself to find something decent. We leave around 9 and we either stop for a terrible lunch or don't eat. I had the idea of getting Townies again on Friday night and then heating it up just before we left. That could not have worked better. I waited about an hour to start mine and while it wasn't hot any longer, it was far from cold and it was just as enjoyable. We have 2 or 3 Fernandina restaurants that we go to every year and then we try and rotate the rest. Townie's just made the every year list.
