“Not Bad for $24 a Round, But......”

Daytona Beach Golf Club
Reviewed 21 May 2016

Played the South Course here for the first time in over a year. In a nutshell, it is in terrible condition. The fairways and tee boxes have more bare spots than a Kardashian fashion show. I've seen smoother washboards, too.

The greens looked very nice and uniform, but were very slow. They need rolled and cut. It was like putting on a plush pile carpet.

The cart paths, what there are of them, are crumbling, and the adjacent trees and shrubs are badly in need of trimming. We had to drive off the cart path in a couple of locations to avoid being knocked out of the cart by long branches hanging way down.

The carts they use are EZGO TXT 48's. These are bottom of the line carts, but they get the job done.

Lastly, we played on a Saturday afternoon and there was no beverage cart on the course. I don't know if they usually have a beverage cart, but they could use one.

I believe the City of Daytona Beach should spend more money on upkeep of this course and maybe it would attract more play and, just maybe, generate enough revenue that the city wouldn't have to infuse much funding. The Club is neglected and should receive more attention from the municipality. Hey, maybe it could be linked somehow to the International Speedway Corp. and it would soar.

Daytona Beach Golf and Country Club is the municipal club in town, owned by the city. There are two 18-hole courses found here, North and South. The South Course is a Donald Ross design. We played during an unseasonably warm December day.

The South course was very forgiving, straight and even. The parkland course is surrounded by pine and oak trees. An unique feature of the course is the Florida East Coast Railway track crossing the field of play. Some water hazards can be found along the course, but they are minor and should not affect your play.

The clubhouse has a nice restaurant to visit after playing a round.

Daytona Beach Golf Club has both a North Course and a South Course. We played the South Course and found conditions to be so-so. The course is flat and the holes pretty much have straight fairways that become monotonous and without personality. There is no "wow" factor. It provided a practice round, but I wouldn't characterize it as challenging or particularly attractive. Indigo is recommended as a better choice.

There are 2 - 18 hole courses here. North & South. On the day we were there, the starter said the south course was in better shape. It turned out to be decent. It was nice this was the warmest day we were there.

South course was very straight and even. I found it funny a previous reviewer said you can't lose a ball here, we both did. We are not good golfers, but do enjoy it. We were able to both rent clubs, play 18 holes, 15 new balls & a package of tees for about $150.

I am sure it is very common for Florida, but the course was very wet. I was surprised by the train tracks you cross more than once. We saw or heard at least 5 trains that past as we played. It was busy at first, but smoothed out the further down the course we got. Greens were slow.

I have played at virtually every course in DB OB Plantation you name it. Every year we will play at least 1-2 rounds here. Why simply the courses are in good shape, fun, interesting and the price is right. Resort golf is fun but costly. I want to play golf. $40 daytime with cart. Want a fun round. Play here
