With coupons for free drinks and an appetizer with the prodding, "Try it - we make everything from scratch," we ventured in. It was a fabulous Florida day and the bar was open to a deck looking out onto the "I wish this were Dubai - Burj Al Arab wanna-be" (Exploration Tower) building surrounded by ponds with lots of lovely Florida birds. We were ready for a nice evening, and we had one. Happy Hour - drinks $2 off (Overpriced to begin with - a Florida brew that costs $2.50 across the street is $5.50 or $6.00 normally at this place, but they have a zillion beers to choose from.) We ordered from our server, a surfer guy - with the stereotypical attitude and language, he was clearly identifiable as such. Turned out he was ok. Calamari appetizer - looked pretty, calamari itself perfectly cooked beneath the coating but really greasy! The chef even knew this because (s)he put a little brown paper at the bottom of the plate to catch the grease, which I imagine looks better than if the grease puddled on the plate. It was served with some kind of green tomato salsa, which was fairly tasteless and added very little to the dish. The salsa needed something else to lend the personality to the dish that I believe the chef had hoped for - salt? some cherry peppers? For a main meal we split a fish and chips, having seen one go by en route to another table - huge portion and it looked lovely - all golden crisp , served with homemade chips. The cod - 3 big pieces - was perfectly cooked, but tasteless, overcome by - yes, you guessed it: GREASE.... and, another brown paper in the bottom of the plate to catch it. After one piece I had had enough slick. No condiments offered. I had to ask for Tabasco - they had none, but had some other popular hot sauce that is not great. The salt and pepper shakers on the table were McCormick twist and grind - Really? For this kind of restaurant? This place borders on fine dining, but is not there yet. Their menu items are unique ideas for the Port dining scene, but based on what we had, need some work for taste quality. This was our second visit; the first one we just had a beer shortly after they opened. The bartender back then also had an attitude. Maybe you have to have one to work there? And the coupons? Oh, well, not really what they seemed to be. With our coupons for 2 free drinks and a free appetizer, we had to pay for part of the app and all of our drinks (they would only deduct $8 for the $11 app and would not deduct anything for the free drinks). Really? They got us in but will they get us back?
